Default Ok..It's my turn now. Which heads for my tr224

WOW, what a year makes. A year ago, I just dropped in my tr224/114lsa and at that time I said that would be the only engine mod I would do. . Like I said, what a year makes. It seemes when I got my cam, thats what everbody was doing, now its heads and I can see why. The prices has gone down and if you match the cam and heads up, you can get some really nice results.

So here is what I am looking at. Patriot 5.3 heads. I have searched this one to death and very few with a tr224 on a 114 have heads. Especially Patriots. Chime in here and give your opinions on what would work best with Thunder's cam at a good price

Also, I plan on calling them, Patriot, and see what they can do since my springs and retainers have less than 2000 miles on them. I hate you buy parts and swap out later for others. Did that in the past and it can get expensive. Time for a beer now . To much typing.

the best dyno and track #'s i have seen with the thunder 224 cam are with Absolute Speed 5.3 heads. Give thunder racing a call and see what they recomend with their cam. im sure they will agree with me.

Just added AS 5.3's to my package. No track times or dyno(YET), but that mother pulls hard up top. Very very happy

I would recommend either the Absolute's or the Patriot's. I have the Patriot 5.3's and they make nice power.

I have a set of Absolute Speed 5.7 heads for sale that were ported specifically for a TR224 cam. They've made 420+ with that cam on several cars. PM or email me if you're interested.

Absolute or TEA.....I wouldn't go with Patriot due to some Inconsistent #'s I've seen from them.

Well I did give Thunder a call, but all they wanted to do is sell their own. Don't blame them. I would do the same. Took your guys advice on Jay and gave him a call. Sounds like a really nice guy on the phone. Great deal on the 5.3's right now, plus a core charge(mine are not 5.3's), but he said I should be able to sell my 5.7's. What do you guys think I could get for mine with 11,000 miles on the heads, 2000 miles on 918's (blue stripe) and TI retainers?

Might have to try to sell them before I can get the 5.3's. You know wives. lol

Anyways, It looks like Absolute for me. What do you guys think I will be after the install? My cam only number was 390 untuned. Has anyone on here done any engraving on the front head surface, like "Stage II" of something?

Thanks again for all the help.

Brian, it veries with tuning and bolt ons, but i a good 425 Should not be a problem. Plus, the New Power under the curve. Dont know if its in your budget, but if it is, have jay match your heads with one of his ported LS6 intakes and new 80mm Billet Tbs. That way you get more intake flow INTO the heads. Good decission.

Brian, I don't mean to change the subject on you, but what did you dyno before the cam? I'm installing the same cam this winter and I'm just trying to get an idea of how much gain to expect. We appear to have similar mods. Thanks.

327/342 with a lid, slp y-pipe, and holley powershot air filter. I made six pulls with the cam, and they ranged from 382 to my last pull (without filter) was 390.

No problem man on the subject change. We all love talking about our cars.
