Default Valve Guide Replacement

How are the valve guides replaced in a LS engine? I saw pics of replacements from Trick Flow, and they appear to be threaded in. I thought they were pressed in.

Well, the old valve guide just drove right out. So what's up with this threaded guide from Trick Flow, LINK? So now, how do I install the new one. Does the head have to be heated, or can the new one simply be tapped in? I'm sure there's a special tool to drive it in with.

that thread is not for screwing in.. if for holding valve seals....threaded side sticks up...
valve seals press onto and lock onto the ribbed threads(notice they are not angled...just a straight wrap around)

pretty standard for aftermarket valve guides

Thanks for the explanation. Makes more sense now. So where can I source a guide and install tool?

Jegs/Comp Cams/Summit..

everybody who sells tools for engine building carries one...
might need an air hammer too...you can do it without...but I dont recommend it

The only guide I found at Summit wouldn't be shipped for nearly a month. I've found nothing on an install tool. Links would be great if you have them.

Mind sharing one of those 30 that you found? Perhaps I'm not searching for the right thing. I found nothing on a valve guide at Jegs or Comp Cams and only one at Summit. Nothing at all on the install tool.

I had a guide replaced, heads inspected, lightly surfaced and cleaned for 100.00 labor from a local machine shop in 2 days. May be your best bet if you're in a hurry.

These heads are completely cleaned and ready for assembly. All I need is 5 minutes of labor to install a $10 guide.

There was no pic of that tool. I can't see a punch costing $350. Bottom line, these heads don't need any cleaning, resurfacing, or anything else. Just needs a guide pressed in.

This is along the lines of what I need to install the guide. Sure doesn't cost $350. LINK

Please don't reply to the thread if you don't want to help. I ask you where to find a $10-$15 tool, and you point me in the direction of a $350 tool. Doesn't seem like you know what you're talking about here. BTW, I do know how to use the internet. I'm a 42 year old software engineer. Just because I don't know where to find a specific tool doesn't mean you need to talk down to me. If you have something to add here, please do. Otherwise, take your trolling else where.

To ensure the valve is seating properly? Makes sense. Thanks.

Yes, once you press/knock the old guide out and install the new one things move.
