Default Should I Get a New Oil Pump and Timing Chain?

This summer, I might be adding S2 heads. Should I at that time add these components? Will kind of be on a budget, but I also don't want anything to break on down the line. The car now has 26.7 thousand miles on it if that helps.

Yep. Can't hurt since it's a 98 I'd do the oil pump for sure.

yes. for about 200 bucks you can get a rollmaster double chain and ported ls6 oil pump from TSP.

Yes! Do both! The slack in the stock chain is just disgusting. And the oil pump is going to crap out sooner or later so might as well replace it while your in there. Once you have put in an oil pump, you will never want to do it again.

Definitely. Might be the best $200 you ever spent

Thanks guys. I have been reading about the weakness of the 98 oil pump, nice to hear some feedback on everything!

You're in there anyway, and with 26K you might as well change them I guess. I changed my pump because I was seeing slightly below average PSI on the stock one. I didn't bother changing my timing chain because it only had 5K miles on it.

I have no issues with using a new(er) stock chain. Our last club project LS1 car that went mid 10s on the stock chain, under boost & N2O, shifting at or above 6900rpm. A piston eventually melted but the stock chain was fine
