Default flycutting after 243's/TQ'r V3

I'm in the process of doing a heads and cam swap. It's 243's with stock size valves and have been milled .010 the cam is a TSP torquer V3. I can't get the heads from the machine shop till 4 Jan to measure for PTV clearance. I'm not sure if I will have a definite PTV clearance issue with this setup or not. I don't really want to spend $230 for the flycutting tools and not need them or wait another week for the heads to find out I do need to flycut and its sitting even longer. Is there anyone who has the Lindy Tool flycutting tool for 2.00 and 1.55 vavles they would be willing to rent out?

We always recommend to check clearance when installing these parts, but we have done a few installs very similar to that and had plenty of clearance. With the stock valve size you should retain quite a bit of clearance. We don't lose major clearance until you throw a larger valve in there.

I'm going to check the clearance just for piece of mind but if it should be plenty I'm not going to order up the flycutting tool. Thanks for the info

the heads were milled .010 and the head gaskets are stock MLS and the thickness listed was .052. The PTV contact was minimal but it was contact. It was not noticable when i rotated the engine by hand but the clay was flattened out all the way to the piston and there was a small mark on the top of the piston.

something is not right, there is no way you should be having contact with that,i could see if it was tight, like .050 or something but for it to be touching something isnt right. That cam is not that big

I thought it was going to be fine but it's not. I don't know what I could have done wrong to make it contact. the cam and crank are right on dot to dot I don't have my new pushrods(7.425) here yet so I used a stock length just to get an idea of how close it will be. What could I have done wrong to get contact? It seems to be a pretty simple procedure

What rockers are yoiu using? 1.8 1.7 standard or adj?
Did you use a collapsed lifeter? to measure? if you did use a collapsed lifter and used too long of PR that will give you more lift.

Im just asking. I dont know you ability.

I was just reading a few threads and I'm using the clay method for measuring the PTV. I'm using LS7 lifters to check and I guess I should have been using solid lifters to get a more accurate reading.

Anychance the heads were milled before you had them milled?

I did buy the heads used so there is a possibility they have been milled before. I'm just going to have to check and figure out how many cc's the chamber is.

The people that milled them for you did not veryify the chamber volume before they gave them back to you?

No he just told me he milled them down .010 and everything else he had done. No mention of chamber volume. I'll check it tonight, its pretty simple
