I would not use the Comp 918 for that cam. I would use a PAC 1518 in a beehive of a PAC 1221 in a dual.

I personally run 918s with .621" lift.

918s are a great spring that I use on almost every engine I build.

The only engines I build are my own. As a do-it-your selfer I try to choose components that are well within the recomended specifications even if it costs more to do so. So when the manufacturers sets a maximum lift I treat it as such. That particular cam carries very well and makes power out to 6,800 rpm - it invites high rpm operation. Since I do like changing valve springs frequently, I would choose springs with some "headroom" in the specifications.

^agreed they set spring specifications for a reason. Im sure you could prolly get away with it for a little while, but i dont think its something you should risk. Get springs that are rated to deal with the lift specs of your cam.

I'm pretty sure that the 918's are a .625 spring, but either way, if a spring is rated to be good for a given amount, why would you even think about exceeding it?

well the story is that I bought alot of stuff from texas speed all at one time and I ordered the prc dual springs .650 lift and I got everything in the mail except for the springs retainers valve locks etc... and I called texas speed and they said they were back ordered. and about a 4 days later I get a package from them with springs that wasnt duals they were single. I didnt think too much of it because I had alot of stuff going on at the time but now that im finally putting my cam in I took a longer look at them and I knew something wasnt right and I threw the box away so I dont know if their the 921's or what and they dont say it on the spring so idk. Im not going to say their 918's because I really dont know but I was starting this thread to see worst case senario if they were 918's would they be safe. But seriously I dont know if their 921's or not and its deffinately too late to ship them back it was about 5months ago so im stuck on what too do.

Once you know your installed height you can figure out the valve spring clearance to coil bind. Advertised lift really doesn't mean much.

The Comp 918 is a single spring, the Comp 921 is a dual spring with the same specificiations as the PAC 1221.

Edit: Additional research indicates that the Comp Cam website lists the maximum lift on its current 918s at 0.625" even though the Texas Speed website continues to list 918s as having a 0.600" maximum lift.

You might want to check with Texas Speed as to whether there is a real change in the hardware or just a different view as to their reliable limit.
