Need to find out if the outer middle row bolt holes are shorter then the rest or are they all the same size.

Early blocks had short bolts, later blocks had all the same length.

That sounds backwards to me. My 98 block had all equal length head bolts. The TSP SB I bought was built off a 2004 GTO block and had different lenth head bolts and were cheaper.

My 2004 LS6 had all the same length bolts. The 2003 LS6 block I bought to replace my broken 2004 LS6 block used the long and short.

Later models use all short bolts, early 04 and down use 2 short bolts on the outers in the middle row, the rest of the big bolts are really long, about 6 inches. My 04 LS6 used the early style.

OK I just measured them. The holes are all 2 3/4" deep. So I have 04' + up. Does this sound right?

Just do what i did ....... get a long straw or some type of pencil or a screw driver

editdo it without the head on though ....ive posted a 2nd pic of the holes without the head

Now you see the pic....insert the pen/straw or whatever your using into hole number 10 and 3 if they are both the same size then its going to be the 04 and up .... if 10 is shorter then 3 then its pre 04
