Exclamation Whats The Biggest/Best Cam W/ 1.8 Rockers

Currently have a ls1 with Yella Terra 1.8 rockers, was wondering what the biggest and best cam is that will make the best power with these rockers, or if its not worth it, ill just pull them out and put stock ones and go with a big cam (ms4 or something along those lines)... i definately want the cam to be noticeable...

F-body with, longtubes, Fast 92 Set Up, Slp Crank Pulley, no cats

What you watch for with higher ratio rockers is the rate of the cam lobe.
Try not to go with a variance rate higher than 53 or in Comp cams do not use lobes more agressive than XE.

I was lookin into puttin higher ratio rockers on my tsp228r set up. it's an xe-r lobe. Is it just too hard on the lifters?

i'm runnin stockers right now, and i'm just trying to do some research on any extra stresses this might cause on my stock 97k lifters while also running dual springs.

i wouldnt worry about it. plenty of cars with stock lifters over 100k with a cam.

yeah I called up texas speed just to get a more solid opinion, and i asked them about getting some 1.8 rockers and what'd it do for me and he said with stock 241's (which is what i'm running) it really wouldn't be worth it.

It depends on your setup ... Comp, Crane and others recommend a 1.8 for their less aggressive lobes because the valvetrain can accept it. A higher ratio rocker not only opens the valve further but also quicker...quicker valve opening is touted by the cam manufactuerers as a means of increasing the speed of the intake charge with the sudden opening of the valve.

That can work against you sometimes however if you are using a quicker lobe along with a higher ratio. With heads, a 212/216 mild lobe cam, 1 5/8 shorties and 1.8's, I put down 402/404. Going to an XE-R, more lift and duration and LT's, I expected good results but I didn't gain much on top because the higher rate lobe and rocker together were too aggressive without a spring update.

So...
Will your heads flow better with the additional lift or are they already doing their best?
Will your valvetrain handle the additional lift, mass and rate?

If you had not already stated it, I sure would have as Cam lobes can certainly effect valve timing events and adding essentially more lift to cams ground for 1.7 ratio rockers is throwing another variable in the equation.

Also to mention is that I do not see what cyl head choice your going to use, in most cases either the Intake or the heads will be choking one or the other and unless you need that extra 0.025" or so extra just @ or past 0.600" lift I would base the cam choice off 1.7 stuff. IMO.

IMO I would sell the YT, go back to stock, and pick the cam you want. Unless you run TFS heads or something, maybe I am missing it.

I used to have a friend who had a custom ground cam made about 5 years ago, not sure on the lobes used but I beleive it was Comp Cam based and it was something like 230/236 0.550" intake/exhaust lift based on stock 1.7's @ 112 LSA and the cam made stupid power in a 2002 M6 Camaro (420 rwhp) with stock everything. WHEN he decided to do heads, he went TFS and since they required different rockers, he then decided to bump the ratio and the lift was near or a lil past the 0.600" mark. IMO that is where 1.8's shine, if the cam was under ground originally.

IMO your going to have to have your cam custom ground and with the 1.8's to bring it to your desired lift but as a FYI it will be a harder cam to sell sometimes.

Just wanted to throw that thought out there.
