Default #8 Piston Hitting Relucter wheel?

Just got my motor back from the builder and started slapping stuff together and last but not least after putting in the #8 tried turning it over and seems the #8 skirt is hitting the relucter wheel, in the process of trying to find out the point of impact i guess the spot was nicked off and is turning over fine.....My question is should i send this back to the builder and get the skirt clearenced/balanced again? or can i run it? my guess is at higher rpms this could be a problem, crank is a callies and pisons are diamond

Check your other pistons, one should have a clearance notch for the reluctor wheel...

Good thing you caught it. It may not have been a problem off the bat, but could have been one down the road past what the machine shop would take blame for.

Yeah Diamond cuts one pistons different to clear the reluctor. That's impressive that the machinist didn't even turn the motor enough to catch that.

Jon can I just swap pistons and keep rings in same cylinder? Do u know the weight difference in the clearanced piston vs others?

Yeah the rings should be filed for the specific cylinder they are in. You can just swap the pistons and leave the rings in that cylinder. The weight won't make a difference.

I missed the part about breaking something off. I would take a close look at it before I ran that piston again. Where did it break?

Nothing broke loose, the Relucter nicked the skirt to get by, it's like a fingernail nick very small, I'll take the piston out and lightly file it there till I get 20 thousandths or 30

I would think it's fine as long as it isn't against the cylinder wall then.

Might also do a run-out check on your reluctor, crank sensors don't like any run-out...

Yeah, There was an article about a month ago in the MOTOR magazine. And in the performance tech article, the guy explained that if you are going with a aftermarket rotating setup to make sure that the pistons are not hittin the reluctor wheel and if it is then you need to get all pistons cut and balanced to the same as #8.
