Default Average cost for having short block assembled???

Hey guys I've been searching a little and not finding any numbers. I need a short-block assembled. The rotating assembly is already balanced, and maching work on the block done. I just need a shop to put it together properly. I just want to know what you guys have paid for this service so i know what to expect when calling shops.

Thanks guys

You may want to call around and see if any shops are willing to do it. They may be hesitant because of the machining of the block being done elsewhere and not wanting to be blamed for faulty machine work causing a failure. Engine assembly is pretty straight forward, just get ahold of the proper torque specs, a ring compressor, and some plastigage and have at it.

Assuming everything is set up to the engine builders liking, expect around 300-500.

My engine builder does it for $230-250, I would have to check the receipt for sure. That is strictly assembly, no balancing.

Yea i only need strictly assembling. I wouldn't mind doing it myself, but i've never done it before and wouldn't mind if i had dismantled one on my own first. Plus if it was a basic build i would have at it. Considering the investment factor of a 404 stroker, i rather not.

I've seen assembly go for $300-400 for a shortblock, but that is the same shop that did the machine work as well. You may have to pay extra for them to assemble another shop's work, and they'll likely either find something "wrong" with the machine work that they can fix for a fee, or offer absolutely no warranty or assistance if anything bad happens.

Right around $20:

Seriously though. I bought this book, and I think it is VERY thorough. Made me feel confident enough to do mine. Just gotta get the machine work done first. Unless the machine shop shoots me a price that is too good to turn down, I'm assembling mine on my own.

Nothing if you do it yourself. If thats not a choice I think that Futral charges $1800.00 but thats for the machine work and to assemble.
