heads/cam/intake suggestions for daily driver
I have looked at several different setups and have done tens of hours of research. I have my options narrowed down to:
Cam:
Stock 02+ LS6 (probably about $150 used)
or
gt2-3 ($400 new from lingenfelter)
intake:
stock ls6 (probably $300-$350 used)
or
something like a fast 90/90 (probably at least twice that used)
heads:
stock ls6 or ls2 243's (probably $400-$600 used)
AFR 205 (probably $1500 used on a good day)
PRC stage 1 ($1,125 new, haven't really seen any used)
I'm also not sure if I would need to upgrade the springs on the PRC's for one of the cams
My question is, is it really worth it to go with the more expensive items in each area (cam/heads/intake)?
I'm looking for a car that runs pretty much like stock, will have an M6 with 3.42's, SLP lid, SLP dual/dual exhaust, and probably some sort of longtubes. I don't really want to go bigger on the cam. ls6 heads/cam/intake for $900-$1000 seems like a decent deal, but again is it worth spending the extra money on the other heads/cam/intake?
If there are any other heads or intake suggestions out there let me know. I haven't really seen alot of stuff regarding the gt2-3 and heads/intake suggestions & I know there was a thread about how much the AFR's improved power on a stock z06, although the power increases from stock were mostly in the upper range.
I take the car to the dragstrip a few times a year, but I am more interested in having a car that is fun to drive daily and runs/sounds like stock rather than one that goes fastest in a straight line.

I detailed this guys 2000 ss the other day,and had to drive it to the shop, imo he had a perfect street set up,228 cam ,ported 243s,bolt ons,stall,3.73s,catted y,magnaflow catback, car drove perfect, wasn't that loud but had a good sound and had really nice power,I would stay away from the ls6 cam,224,or a lil bigger is worth it,I think it is worth it to spend a lil more,9 times out of 10 your gonna want more, also stick with a ls6 intake,a fast is a great intake but your talking about a very mild setup, that's just my opinion,

From what I've read on here, go 1 step higher on the cam you want cuz ur always gonna want something a little bigger than what you originally went with. And with a good tuner who's knows what they are doing can make just about any cam street friendly... I've been looking into the ls6 stage 1 heads and 233/239 cam combo from TSP along with an LS6 intake and an eBay 92mm (I think) TB. figured that be a pretty decent setup. My car wont see a drag strip until I get a 9" in it. So mainly a weekend warrior. If it makes 430rwhp. I'd be extemely happy. mods are in sig

you can go to the mid 230s on the cam duration and have alot more power and still drive like stock, just get 114 or higher if you want stock idle. You need more lift yo make more power too. I also bought a set of prc 243 stage 2.5 on here for $1100 shipped to my door with prc double and it was all new. Just have to keep your eyes open..

the car currently has an auto with a 3.73 gear (which makes alot of noise b/c it is a richmond) and a 3500 stall. when I nailed it at 50 the other day the car started to go sideways & that is with 275-40-17 bfgoodrich KDW's on it. Going big on the cam is not something I really want to do. At the very most I would consider something like the tr224, but again I want this thing to idle smooth and be a sleeper. Going bigger on the cam and never being able to hook on the street seems a little silly to me.

I would go with a used 224 cam which aren't to hard to find and will drive like stock. The fast 90 is worth the extra money and go with used ls6 heads or prc ported ls6 heads. That is probably the best setup for the money

ok. I'm now thinking a cam along the lines of the MTI stealth II. My problem of wanting to have a stock idle requires a larger LSA, which is going to force the cam to really produce more power up top. I really don't want to have to rev the thing hard to get all the power out of it, but that may be the route I go

just got an MTI II stealth cam. the specs are 224/220 .581/581 116. Would something like the prc stage 2.5 be too much head for this cam? There is a guy selling a set near me that have been milled down for $900. With stock pistons I would be pushing 11.25:1 compression, which seems a bit high if I were to get them. Thoughts?
