which oil weight on h/c/i stock clearance engine ?
which oil weight should i get for a ''stock clearance'' h/c/i ls1, iam lookin at the valvoline vr1 and Joe Gibbs XP4, people say to run 30w in my set up but that seems a little thick in my opinion, tell me what weight should i run and the car is a drag car that sees allot of street time also, thanks matt

Here is some good information in a past thread of mine. https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...te-engine.html I ended up running VR1 30w ... my motor seems to like it, but I have very few miles on it. I also used a Wix filter. It fared well in a filter test I found online. I will look for the test and post the link if you are interested. The Wix had some nice large ports which should be good for flow. I also used a Wix in our '08 G35S as well.

Op ... with it being a SDPC 402 crate motor, I have no idea. Since Scoggin Dickey recommends a straight 30W, that is what I went with. I just make sure that the oil has a high ZDDP content. My local O'Reilly's can get the VR1 in a 30W the next morning after I request it.

I don't see the need for a multi-weight oil for a track car unless you plan to drive it in the cold weather. The 0w40 and 10w40 multi-weights are thicker than a straight 30w at operating temperature. I would think a 40w may slightly rob a bit of rwhp. If you are worried about cold startup, then you may want to stick to a multi-weight oil.
