Default Texas Speed MS3

Does anyone know if the MS3 cam will work without any mods to the pistons or heads? I want to install it in a LS6 crate engine.

You may get some other inputs but I am putting ls6 heads on my ls1 and I wanted the ms3 bad! But I was going to use. 650 lift beehive springs and when I called Texas speed they told me they did not recommend that, that the ms3 required dual valve springs regardless of the .6xx/.6xx lift that the cam has. The stock ls6 spring are only rated to .550 or so, so I would think twice about using that cam without changing springs. Shame too I really wanted that cam.

you should have no clearance problems with stock heads but i think that double valve springs will be a must

That cam should clear just fine. Be sure to go with a good spring and chromoly pushrods. Also, be sure to get your basic bolt on mods covered before the cam goes in. It needs those mods to make the power it is supposed to. Let me know if you have any questions and we'll get you fixed up!

I have the MS3 cam in my 98 Z28 M6..i bought the cam package that came with hardened pushrods and double valve springs...The supporting mods definately help..I bought a ported oil pump, double roller timing chain and i went ahead with a bigger intake to help her flow a lil better. The cam is a beast when u get it tuned right..ive had nothing but impressive results and times with my cam.

Even with the mods to support it the MS3 leaves alot of power under the curve. It does make good top end power.

The MS3 will fit right in, but like Jon said make sure you have supporting mods to go along with it.

I would say 90% of people putting cams in LS cars are not changing the lifters. Most guys don't because you have to pull the heads off to swap lifters.

^ you don't have to change the lifters,I didn't for over a year and they were fine, but if you pull the heads I would for sure do them, also I would think about gears if you have not done them yet. My ms4 was a freaking dog down low on stock gears,4.10s made the cam,and in the new rear I will run a 4.30,ms3 is a proven cam,if you have all the bolts ons, gears etc , throw a 150 shot on there and you will never get the smile off your face lol,

Jon, what is the preferred method of keeping the lifters up while doing a cam with the heads still installed?

(yeah, I know, it's probably been asked 1000 times!)

what?
im assuming you mean you lifters are messing up? how do you know this? are you sure that you have the correct push rod length? if there wrong it will sound like a sewing machine which is commonly mistaking as bad lifters
