Default cam for 5.3 heads

anybody know how big a cam i can run with 5.3 heads on an ls1 without flycutting? the heads have 2.00 intake and stock exhaust valve. Im wondering what cam would make the most power with those heads.

Did you buy the heads from Texas Speed, and if so, do you know if they sunk the valves? Generally, you should be able to fit a mid-high 23X Intake duration Low 24X Exh Duration cam. I think the best power making cams for those heads are going to be the TSP Magic Stick 3 or the G5X3 cam.

Not knowing much about heads is dangerous. For all you know someone could have had them milled 0.030" or something. The cams I mentioned above will fit unmilled heads.

any pics of the ports?any flow numbers?cc the combustion chamber.what springs?if you don't know much about the heads I would not install a radical cam.look at a TSP cam pkg, maybe a 228r or a torquer v2.

they might be stock ported with sunk valves giving a lot of clearance or milled .040 with regular valves giving little clearance for all we know. You really need to try to get more info. Personally i would make sure i am measuring when i install them regardless of the cam. Be prepared to flycut or buy different cams till you get one to fit.

im pretty sure they are just stock 5.3 heads with 2.00 intake valve im going to be upgrading the entire valvetrain and be running dual springs. when i do the swap i am going to be port matching the heads with a fast 90 intake. and if i have to flycut i will but i would rather not. just looking for an idea of how big a cam i could get. thanks for the info

if the valves are not sunk, i would not go bigger then the torquer V2, but the way you can check is take them to a machine shop and the can measure the chambers for u
