Unhappy Updat to the $500 z28 (opened up the pass. Valve cover)

anyone know why that spring looks like it's fully compressed just by the pic? I'm going to take off the head and get the motor rebuild anyways but just wanted to know what you guys thought...
Thanks

It's on the nose of the cam, try barring the motor over while watching the rockers...

better pull the passanger head, that will be a good way to tell. or you can pull the motor and drop the oil pan, best to pull the motor though and break it down to the short block only, then you can look for the damage

LOL. Wow. This place is getting overrun with rookies.

Just because the engine isn't running, doesn't mean all 16 valves just shut. When you shut the car off, a few valves will be left open on each bank.

Pull the plugs, and put a 24mm socket on the crank. Spin the motor over. If all the intake/exhaust valves are opening/closing properly then you have no problem (with that one particular issue at least).

+1 Just looks like a high mileage car that went longer on it's oil changes
