Default Broke another Comp 918 spring

Fortunately I didn't do any damage to my bottom end and only slight damage to one valve. The machine shop doing the valve job/head repair is also putting in nitrided double coil springs with titanium guides and locks. These springs will be good to 660 lift.
This shop also builds all the LSx engines for Mosler, so I am in really good hands. Hope to have all this done by next friday.

New news; I decided that it was a good time to go with a forged bottom end. So they (machine shop) will line bore (40 over), use Mahl pistons, Clevite bearings and Eagle rotating assembly (11.4 compression ratio) with the internals balanced and blue printed. New GMPP water pump and Harmonic balancer will added when reassembly begins.

How many miles were on the springs and when abouts did you buy them? I see so many horror stories about these springs. I'm surprised anyone runs them to be honest.

The 918's were about 4 years old with only 20K miles on them. I would never recommend them to anyone with a cam lift above 540.

I have em since 6 years, H/C/nitrous, plus the other owner had em for sometime before too..so maybe a total of 6-8 years 30-60K miles?? no issue..

That is with and big sewing machine sound too!

...planning on a refresh this year though!

pac 1518's are the only beehive i've seen lately that i would trust. but you have to know how to set them up. and i wouldn't personally run anything over .610 with them. they are rated at .650 but rumor is they have problems with anything over .637 lift. and i would never trust 918's with any kind of agressive lobed cam.

Sounds like a solid set up. Great cam choice too. Upgrade your oil pump as well and timing chain if you haven't already. Keep me posted on the outcome w/ that cam.
