Default ? about my Cam.

I recently bought a cam locally and was told it was a crane cam XER (torquer 2). Was through a friend of a friend and thought it could be trusted. Well, its not. After giving my friend the money to get it and it sitting at his house (without him looking also), I finally was able to look it.

Crower cam
240/246 .610 lift 114 lobe.

The question is, can I use .600 valve springs and still be safe?

The heads are stock and valve train will be replaced.

I would not personally. The risk is not worth the 250 for a new set of springs.

I wouldn't even use a 600 spring if the cam was only 590...just too close for comfort....Spend the extra couple hundred on decent springs...

This isnt for a stock cube daily driver is it? that's an aeg big cam for stock cubes, but more suited for a stroker.

I would never run s cam with higher lift than what the springs are rated.

After talking to the guys at crower, they said who it was build for and what motor. The guy said it was for an LS6. I didnt go into if it was good for mine, just wanted details.

It will be for a DD, so I might just sell it and get the cam I want for my car.

Sell it and get a different cam more appropriate for your set up... Like the Torquer v2 you wanted in the first place. Then go punch the friend and the Friends friend in the junk!!

Eh. I'm not violent anymore, I just shoot them.

Well, guess when I get some more time, I'll post it up.

That's huge cam for a 346, so beware of it being soft down low. Also peak lift numbers don't tell the whole story of a cam's required valvespring.

Was originally made for an LS6. When I saw the cam specs, I was like, thats not going to work.

www.crower.com

Go to cam card finder and put this in:

e-56408

Tells you pretty much what is needed to know about the cam. Thanks again.

Lift is not the sole determining factor as to whether or not the spring will work. Some springs will go signifigantly above their max lift rating if tested, but that is not the main issue here. A cam with those specs will most likely not even fit in a stock engine without flycutting... Also, definitely not a cam for a daily driver, that thing would want to peak above 7Kin a stock cube motor...
