Best valve springs for 228r cam from tsp?
What springs would be best for the 228r as in- best performing, most reliable, and long lasting? I want a spring that will last a good amount of time. If that means spending $100 extra than I guess that is what ill do.
Should I get pac 1518 springs good to .650 lift? Or the PRC double springs good to .650 lift? Or the PRC double springs good to .675 lift?

I'm using 918 behive springs with my 228r cam they work just fine and should last many miles. So I would say get the 918's but if you feel more comfortable with the double spring go with it and if you change your cam to a higher lift you will have the springs to do so

Whatever you do I suggest using a dual spring, I have seen that middle spring save a dropped valve WAY to many times to ever use a behive spring. It will save you a bunch of trouble should you ever break a spring. The PRC .650 springs are perfect and cheap, alot of people use Patriot Golds too.

One thing that a lot of people forget. If you put on springs that are stiffer than you really need, in addition to paying a lot more for them, it takes HP away from the motor to compress those heavier springs, not to mention the stress on rocker arms, lifters, pushrods, cams, timing chains, etc. Don't over spring! The beehives are fine.

Well I have it down to the PRC .650 double springs or the PAC .650 1518 springs. Im leaning towards the PRC's because of the dual springs and I have read that they are a longer lasting spring

Not only are the duels going to be loud, they will rob you of HP. The Pac's are more then sufficent for what you are doing.

I bought PAC 1518's for my TR230 cam and I have no complaints. I hear they will last for 30-40k miles. Kinda sucks that I will have to replace springs more frequently than spark plugs. If someone made a spring that would last 100k miles Id pay for it.

1518's w/ Ti retainers. keeps things light. even better would be a set of ls6 valves. (btw make sure these springs are set up properly.)
would also suggest upgrading trunions while you're in there. not a must, but it's relatively cheap, and good insurance.
anyways, enjoy your new cam!

the pac1218's will be plenty for your setup... and will last 25k mi. I would still check them every 10k. I think sdpc has them for around 160-180 cant remember the exact amount. You could spend an extra 100 and get the 1518's but that does not mean they will last any longer. There is alot more that factors into springs than lift alone. open and closed seat pressure is as or if not more important than lift rating!

I wonder how many guys have valve float and dont even know about it. You'd be suprised. Most if not all LS1 specific valve springs on the market are pretty weak and I wouldnt take any of them past 6500rpm. Ask me how I know.
PAC springs are one of the few that are pretty decent.

Well after talking to some guys at texas speed I am pretty much set on the prc dual springs. I asked "Wich would last longer? PRC dual spring good to .650 lift or the Pac 1518's good to .650 lift?" And his reply was "PRC duals, hands down". He also said with the 228r they should go 45k before they start wearing down.
