Default Installed my G5X4 Cam - Video Inside

Finally had time to install the G5X4 Cam that I've had for a while, and tossed on an LS6 Intake, Got a few more things to do and then I'll be ready. Still needs a tune and I'm debating on how to run my exhaust, Not sure if I want to do true duals or not, it's already pretty loud even with the cutout closed.

Matt

Thanks... it's waaaaay more aggressive than I thought it was going to be... but I like it... Now I need to figure out how to run my exhaust and which heads I want.

Man ,that thing sounds mean !! I wouldn't run a true dual set-up with that cam . You might want to consider getting muffler to quiet it down a little ,like a magnaflow or a slp dual-dual . As for heads ,Livernois Motorsports,TEA,TSP PRC's , are all good choices 243's or 5.3 heads. With that cam ,I wouldn't go no less than a stage II cnc's from any vendor you may choose.

Thanks... I still haven't decided on TD's or not, but I'm going with the CME setup so I would like True Duals... I was looking at the Magnaflow bullets as well. As far as the heads go I think the 5.3's would cause a PTV clearance issue, but I do have some 863 casting 5.3's on an engine I bought for my Iroc I wanted to use, so I'll do some research on that one. Hopefully someone can chime in on that...

Btw I have a slowmaster muffler on it now that needs to go. in the first startup the cutout was open, in the last two clips it was closed... didn't make any difference it was still loud lol.

Sounds good the way it is, I'd keep what you got for exhaust.
Question about running these big cams without a tune. So was this the first start with the new cam in? I can understand the ECM taking a couple minutes to adjust for the cam, and then it should idle and not sound like it's gonna die. Just a nice steady lope. Am I correct? Or is that jsut something you have to live with every time you cold start until you get a good tune on the car?

I believe that cam is 242/244, so it's a good size cam. It'll likely run like that until it's tuned. I had to drive my car for about 1 week after I installed my 227/231 111lsa cam before I was able to get it tuned, and it wanted to stall at every stop sign/light.

I had the g5x4 cam. It gained only 5hp and 4tq over the g5x3 cam on the dyno. I didn't go any faster in the 1/4mi over the x3 either. still a great cam, like all the x cams from lg motorsports. Also, loose the ls6 intake and get a fast intake.

Its going to run like that until it gets tuned, they sometimes idle a little better after the first start up once the PCM learns it, but there's only so much learning it'll do. The first startup it wouldn't idle on it's own.

As far as the exhaust I definitely need to change it because it's too loud, even with the cut out closed it's just as loud. I need to keep it quiet to avoid the CHP and a referee ticket.

Yea...that would be a smart move ,man. Cause after a while ,you wouldn't want to start it up to go anywhere cause you know you are going to get stopped by the cops.

Gotta have the money for a fast intake. Once I have the money I will get one, until then I have an LS6 intake that I pulled off my other LS1.

Yeah well you're lucky to be out in VA. We have too many issues when it comes to CA and their emissions.

I'm not sure what the lift is on the G5X4 cam, it took me a while to just find the duration for the intake/exhaust lobes.

ounce you get it tuned it will calm it way down and make it idle and drive so much better I would just probably go with just a tsp y pipe just because its so much easer

You might want to consider a catted Y-pipe, or adding cats. That will help tone it down some and cut down on the fuel smell you will definitely have with +17* of overlap, I'm putting cats on mine(to cut down on the fuel smell) and I only have 7* of overlap.

Im gonna guess its bigger then my G5X3, which I beleive is a .610/.612 (mine might be a bit smaller on the intake)
