Default Broke Bolt off in Coolant pipe hole ,HELP!

I was finishing up a head swap and noticed coolant was coming out of the two holes where the coolant pipe connects to the heads under the intake when I ran it, I started to tighten one down and the head of the bolt popped off leaving most of the bolt in the head wtf are my options now?

if coolant was coming out these holes does this mean there is a problem with my head gasket or something? I started the motor and it ran fine for a few minutes and didnt overheat.

Coolant/steam is supposed to come out of that hole, albeit into a crossover tube. It tells you nothing about your head gaskets. Just get a bolt extractor and get the broken bolt out.

The crossover tube was bolted in there, but coolant was seeping out on both sides like it wasnt tight enough, then the one side broke when I tried to tighten it.

I was worried that the gasket was wrong or something and a coolant passage was blocked.

Coolant is supposed to flow out of those holes...the crossover tube goes between the heads there.

Is there enough bolt sticking out to get a good grip on it with vise grips?, or even better you can get a bolt extractor that looks like a socket but has teeth in it that grab the bolt shank.

If not it will need to be drilled and tapped

Did you have the gaskets in there? Little peices of aluminum with an O ring on it?

Well if you mean coolant was coming out of "both sides" of the cross over piece, you are still probably okay. Coolant that reaches that point inside the head is already under pressure and it will leak.

Be sure you have the plug in the passenger side head that duplicates the hole where the temperature sensor goes on the driver's side.

It looks like it has a little bit of a lip on it. Try tapping it out

I have the LS1 style crossover that goes underneath the intake. Anyone have a part # for these gaskets?

I guess I'll get a bit and try to tap it out

It's not realtime a gasket...my ls6 had an oval peices of aluminum with two holes in it and an O ring in one of the holes that the nipple on the crossover tube fit in.

Go to your local dealer, ask for the steam tube gaskets....they shouldn't be more than a few dollars

Here is the part number I ordered when I installed my AFR's. You need to get that bolt out and then use a torque wrench when installing to prevent these types of issues. Make sure the area is clean and smooth before installing to prevent leaks.

GM Part #: 12551933

Thanks, I called the local Oreillys they have 2 in stock for 9.99 each, I looked at the old heads and they do have the gaskets on them, I pulled them off and the rubber tore a little bit.

now if i can just get out that damned bolt i can finally get this thing back together

Drill a little whole in there. Then grab something a little bigger hit it slowly wit a hammer so not to break it and then just get some plyers 2 get good grip and pull it right off. I did that wit mine.

I was able to get the old bolt drilled out and a new smaller bolt threaded in the hole. Put the steam pipe back in with all new gaskets and sealed up the one with a dab of RTV just to be safe and its working well.
