I did the same thing. You can click the link in my sig to go to my build thread. What do you have already? You'll need all the accessories, an intake, oil pan, windage tray, and pickup tube for starters.

That's good, you've got the supporting mods in place and you can swap everything you need over from the 5.7. Good luck and let me know if I can help you out at all.

The computer, wiring harness, and all your LS1 sensors will work just fine on the LQ4. They swap over and are all direct fit.

One thing you do need to keep in mind is the model year LQ4 you are looking at swapping. Some of the newer ones have a different size reluctor wheel than a stock LS1. If you're looking at an older LQ4, then it should be fine. I don't recall which years have the correct wheel off the top of my head, but if you do a quick search on here you'll find the info no problem.

I would suggest you check out my build thread here:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...lq4-build.html

I'm still working on it... but when I'm done, I hope to have a complete list of parts, part numbers and resources as to where to get it all in the first page of the thread. Currently I have a long list of parts needed, but a good bit of it is for MY built, not for everyone. The parts I have for "everyone" are pretty much already listed throughout the thread.

Short answer to your last qustion, LQ9=Lq4 with flat top pistons.

Also, to add to what Q said, I think so long as you're under 2004 you're good on reluctor wheel. After 2003/4 it starts to get iffy. I THINK they kept the 24x in 6.0s up to 2006, but I don't KNOW this. My engine is a 2003 and is 24x.

this helps man thanks...and I take it that all the senors are the same and the ls1 wiring harness will still work with the lq9. See I was going to get the lq4 for 650 bucks had like 250xxx on the motor, didnt care about miles. but then I talked to a long lost friend and he has a running (30xxx mile) LQ9 for $200. But if I gotta switch reluctor wheels and build a custom harness and all this bs I will just grab the Lq4. why did you go with the Lq4?

Dont know what that reluctor mess is about because all LQ4/9's are 24x. Only thing to worry about is the early LQ4s with iron heads had the crank adapter cast into the crank flange so the crank has to be changed, even then you can use any 97-06 5.3/5.7/6.0 crank

Also dont see the point in needing a parts list for a long block swap

You need:
1) The long block, that means block, rotating assembly and heads. Rest of the truck stuff you cant use in a 4th gen

2) Fluids, coolant, brake fluid, PS fluid etc. Basic expendables lost during any engine removal process

Here's the thing on this reluctor wheel stuff..

if you are planning to rebuild the motor anyway.. it does not matter what reluctor it has.. because once you have the crank out, you can have the 58x pushed off and a 24x installed.

the reluctor is only an issue if you are NOT rebuilding the bottom end.

at 300k.. I'd rebuild an engine unless it just looked REALLY good.
