Default 383 Build Assistance

Hi there, I'd love a little input on a potential engine build... Does anyone have any feedback on the following:

Build Changed to 402 Stroker (LQ4 Block):

- Callies Compstar Forged Crank
- K1 Forged H-beam Rods w/ arp 200 bolts
- Weisco -8cc Dished Pistons
- Cam ?? Something Around 244/252 112 .640 ish lift (see head flow data above)
- Stg 3 Ported 243s (for now) - Milled .012 and 63.5 cc chamber size
- LS6 Intake Manifold (for now)

Here are some other specs about the car its going in:
* 243 Cylinder Heads StgIII port
*2.02/1.575 Valves
*Milled .012
* 150 Shot of N20
* e85 (while it lasts, sighhhh)

Head Flow #'s
Lift ..... Flow
.100.....66.8
.200.....147.2
.300.....210.2
.400.....252.8
.500.....295.8
.550.....311.5
.600.....316.7
.650.....312.4

I spoke with TSP already on this setup, and they seem to agree it would work, but what are your thoughts? The cam is up for debate as well because I dont have it yet, I currently have the G5X1. Figure the CR should be right around 11.2:1. Thanks in advance for looking and your feedback on the setup. Am I missing anything? Recommendations? Concerns? I'd love to come in around the 475 - 500 rwhp mark off of the spray if possible.

Thanks!

You could go with a bigger cam, that is a decent size for stock cube motor. With the -8cc dish you could run a bigger cam. I would look into getting a 102/102 so it can breath at full potential. I just got done building a 383 myself. make sure you double check your bearing clearances.

Would go custom on the cam. Will probably hit the 475 mark without an intake

Looks like a solid build. Cam could be bigger to accommodate the bigger cubes. Are you a auto or six speed? Mine put down some pretty good numbers right after the build and initial tuning on stock ls1 heads. Pm me if you want more details.

Thanks for the input guys ... very helpful. I think the common theme is that my cam choice needs to be revisited.

Well, there has been a lot of discussion lately around what is going to happen to e85 with the loss of government subsidies. This is second hand information, but I havent found any information to the contrary, that even the major manufacturers arnt doing flex fuel vehicles for the 2013 model year. I got most of the information from discussion on bobistheoilguy.com.

Even if we see e85 stick around, chances are that .45 cent per gallon subsidy will be passed along to us. Might as well just run race gas

Also a correction on the mill amount on the heads, it's .012, not .015.

I will go more like a ms4 cam 239/242 but with less lift in the .600/60? Since your heads dont flow more past .600 so go custom my car dyno 492/477 with the ms4 cam

Anyone old enough to remember when Chrysler made a 383" big block ? Who
cares....we have Joe Sherman to thank for the GEN I hybrid and the LS
version crushes it....great build man. I agree with cam choices in the low-mid
240s duration.

Always go a little bit higher on the lift. If it shows the flow 318 at .600 and 316 at .650 they might have flowed 320 at .630

What other parts of the engine need replaced with the rebuild. Current engine has 60k on it and is running fine. Planning on doing the following:

Valve Springs
Oil Pump
Timing Set

My build has changed a little bit (well, a lot of bit), I was able to aquire a new LQ4 bare block for a reasonable price, so Im going to build a 402 stroker motor setup for a 150 - 200 shot of N20.

Here are some details on the new build:

- LQ4
- Callies Compstar Forged Crank
- K1 Forged H-beam Rods w/ arp 200 bolts
- Weisco -8cc Dished Pistons
- Cam ?? Something Around 24x/24x .61x / .61x (see head flow data above)
- Stg 3 Ported 243s (for now) - Milled .012 and 63.5 cc chamber size
- LS6 Intake Manifold (for now)

Thoughts/Concerns/ etc...

the only thing wrong is your intake sell it and buy a good used fast intake 90mm 92mm or a 102mm you will be living a lot on the table with the ls6 intake!
