Default low oil pressure high rpm under load

im try to figure out what is causing low oil pressure at high rpm's....car makes great pressure up to about 5500....pressure rises with rpm at about or over 10psi per 1000....even at higher oil temps of 230-250 pressure still rises.....idle pressure is 40-50 cold and about 20-25 hot....no noises from anywhere.....as soon as i get on it and i get over 6000 the pressure falls of to as low as 30-35 psi at 6800rpm....need to get an idea on where to look first...oil is 20-50

1)is it an oil pump o ring?

2) oil pick up in the wrong place??

3) high volume melling pump emptying the pan??? even tried running an extra quart of oil...at one time i had 7.5 in there with no change

4) bad sensor???

thx

Man Im having the same problem with my 98 T/A. I just got it back from those theives at the shop and they supposedly changed my oil pan gasket and oil pump. However my oil pressure is all over the place when Im driving and my temp will get up to 220-225ish, which I think is way to hot. I do live in Texas and is has been 100+ everday for months and I think those monkeys at the shop just put some cheap oil in it and thats why my oil pressure is up and down, nomally I run Royal Purple but Im still confused about this and it makes me realy worried about my baby.

#1 How many miles are on your cars?
#2 Do you know if the oil has been changed on time?
#3 Could be either the o-ring is bad or the sump screen is about half stopped up. Or maybe both. You just don't change oil pan gaskets in these cars very easy, so if your bill wasn't much they probably didn't change it. And normally on these GEN IV engines if you starve the engine from oil the lifters will start claking there Butts off.
#4 Might get lucky and be just the sending unit.

+1 on that!! i will start with putting a oil pressure gauge to see if the sending unit is bad or going bad!!

^This.

The oil pressure on my car starting dropping after I did H/C/I. It kept getting lower and lower but it wasn't making any noise. I started with changine the OPSU and luckily that was it. Normally they don't go out like that but mine did.

Try and start simple first. I was ready to pull the front of the engine off and replace the oil pump. Glad I didn't.

So, check it anyway. If you have excessive crank walk, oil pressure will fluctuate under load. Ask me how I know.

Not to get off topic but how did you find out that was the problem?

I had fluctuating pressure under load only.....didn't know why. Drove the car for months. Just so happen to pull the trans to replace the converter and flexplate and that's when I saw the crank walk .040 until it banged into main cap. Turns out the main caps were what was holding the crank in place. Here's the thread:
