Default Ticking noise

Hey all, I've got an m6 '99TA with the mods in my sig, except now I have an LS6 intake and DR's. My car is no longer my DD and I have been storing it in my garage in hopes of weekend/occasional track use. I recently had issues with my clutch hydraulics and they are now fixed and I also had the LS6 intake installed at the same time. About two weeks ago, I started it up as I always do to keep the battery charged and keep it running, well I heard a small, slight noise which was similar to a rattle or that of a coin bouncing around in the dryer. The noise was coming from the area of my throttle body. There were no other noises coming from anywhere else at all. Today, I started it up and was going to get gas for the track tonight. While on my way to the gas station, it started making a loud ticking noise. I returned home and parked it in the garage. I pulled the codes and it came up with the P0300 Random cylinder misfire. My question is, could this be bad gas? My car has sat for some time now and stupid me did not put any fuel stabilizer in it I have put maybe AT MOST 200 miles on it in the past few months. I was thinking about getting the old gas out and putting some high octane gas in it to see if it would cure it or possibly adding it to the current gas tank(there is less than 1/4 of a tank left), before I take it to have it looked at. It drove fine and did not show any signs of anything being wrong when I drove it home from the shop when I had my clutch fixed and this noise now is kinda random. Also, would 108 octane be alright to put in it? The car has 138k on it but I have always taken good care of it. Any ideas?

Has it been tuned for the intake? It doesn't sound like its pinging does it? But still I have to agree with the above something could have fallen in. Did you tape up the until right before you installed the new intake?

If it was a used intake...there is a chance there could have been something inside the intake also.

I seriously doubt the fuel had anything to do with the noise...You shouldnt need any higher then 91 octane with your setup.

It was a used intake and when I bought it I checked it out pretty good and could not hear anything inside. I did not personally install the intake, I had it put on at the same time I had my clutch fixed. The car hasn't been tuned since the intake was installed. When I drove the car home from the shop after my clutch was fixed, it was a long drive and I'm guessing something would have happened then or I would have noticed something sooner. It doesn't sound like a pinging noise, it now sounds more like an issue in one of the cylinders. I'm just confused because it's really random. I was thinking the gas went bad and was making it miss. It sounds more like a miss now than anything. What about a bearing? I haven't even got on it lately either which is weird also.

how many miles did you drive the car after the intake was put on before it started making the noise?

Either way next step is to do compression test.

Since returning home from the shop I've since put approximately 60-80 miles on it. I agree a compression test is in order, I just hope it's nothing too serious.

I'd take it back to the shop and have them check it.

I would take it back to the shop to. I would say there is a good chance they droped something. I would get a hold of them before you drive it to much.

That's what I was thinking also. Hopefully it won't be anything too serious, thanks for the responses guys!
