Default can't crank motor over

so before i took the motor apart i was able to turn the crank by myself with my hands. i put a cam and put the harmonic balancer on the block and i tightened the bolt and the motor wont turn over. i need to turn it over since i rebuilt the block i need to tighten up the rod bolts that i didn't have space to get to. my mindset was that since it was easy to turn it over i could wait till i got the harmonic balancer on and then just turn it over through there to get to the bolts. any help guys is appreciated

At the risk of stating the obvious - do not force it to turn.

In what state of assembly is the motor? Are the pushrods/rockers in place or just the crank?

I could never turn my motor over by hand with everything put together. I had to use a wrench...

are the spark plugs installed? Take them out or loosen them, this should Relieve a lot of pressure.

Did the motor turn over BEFORE you put the balancer on ? This is how I read your first post.

Did your rebuild include the main bearings?

So this is being done in car? If you can't move it either way at all, then I'm gonna say that it's a clearance problem with the main bearings.

And just to state the obvious...assuming you're doing this in car. Is the tranny reinstalled and if so is it in neutral? Did you use a flywheel stop or something similar and if you did is it still installed?

No the motor is outside of the car in a stand. How would it be a clearance with the bearings?
