Default Building a reliable track-worthy ls1 (ENGINE not car)

Alright so if I decide to keep my firebird, I want to track it, and by that I mean road race type tracks, but the car is also my daily. Currently has 137k miles on it, no issues at all, maintained, cam and supporting mods, mated up to the t56 and 10 bolt. I plan on doing heads and an intake manifold as well as slightly thinner head gaskets to bump compression a little more. What else do you guys suggest doing to make it a track worthy driver that I could go beat on at the track, and have it be fine afterwards to drive around town all the time?

Plan:
-137k mile ls1
-243s with aftermarket lightweight valves
-ls6 manifold or FAST 90
-ls7 lifters
-Has a ported ls6 oil pump, ls2 timing chain, springs, pushrods
-Clevite rod bearings
-ARP rod bolts
-new oil pan with "flaps" to aid oiling
-small accusump to help as well

Sticky tires all the way around, stiff suspension, lower it more? It's starting to get up there in miles a bit.

The main thing to me would be making sure the valve train is in good shape for that kind of racing. Road racing is some of the most taxing type of racing you can put your motor through so the valve train components are crucial to have in good shape. It looks like you have a good grasp of what you need. I would recommend looking into the comp cams rocker trunion upgrade, I think it would be good to have some reinforced rockers. I would also recommend looking into an aftermarket single roller timing set. I know you already have an LS2 on there, but the timing chains see a lot of stress in a road race application so I always feel it is good to make sure you are covered in that respect. Other then that I think you are already going in the right direction.

Do suspension and brake mods first. It will make you faster than the engine mods around a track and is MUCH safer. Stock handling on these cars SUCKS nutz.

Alright, thanks, I'll definitely have to check into that and the timing set, thanks. Any recommendation on some good heads?

Is it worth keeping the engine in right now or getting a 2001 80k mile ls1?

If its in the budget a smaller runner aftermarket casting head would be the way to go. We would run something like our PRC 215cc heads. With the smaller runner, smaller combustion chamber, and larger valve you really have the chance to pick up a lot of power pretty much everywhere. Especially in the low end because of the compression pick up and smaller runner moving the air quicker.

I road race my street car. I broke a dual Rollmaster, if your engine has provision for a chain damper, fit one.
Definitely fit a power steer cooler.

Alright, thanks a lot. What about just having you port out a set of 243s I send to you guys?

We can do the port work and valve job for 750 and if you want larger stainless valves its an extra 200.

Sweet, I'll send you a PM then so the thread can go on.

For the thread: Is it worth having new cam bearings pressed in?
