Anyone else have a hard time ordering a big custom cam from Comp cams?
Well I already paid for the cam but for some reason they said they are having a hard time finding a core to make these specs
250/256 .620/.626 112 LSA XER? Has anyone else had this problem? They tried to say they have never made a LS1 cam this big? I know theres people out there with even bigger cam so I dont understand?

I don't understand the runaround you're getting etiher. I don't know why they don't go to a billet cam core. It's done all the time. They may be putting you on the back burner for some big job, but that's still not a valid excuse. A company that I've used for several years and like is Crower Cams. Here are some other guys in addition to Crower that may help:

www.iskycams.com

yeah I dont understand either? I was told it ususlly take about a week so I called after a week and a half and they said its been shipped. Well 3 weeks later I call and they give me this ****?
Do you know is Crower, crane, or isky make a cam simular to how comp does there XER Lobe?
From what I understand comp's XER lobe is supposed to make more power then a regular custom cam but is also harder on the valvetrain.

I don't think Crane markets a lobe similar to the XE-R. Sure they might make big lobes, but not with the ramp rate he wants. Best thing to do is get a reseller of the cams, such as LG or MTI, and have them talk to there "people" who work there. Individuals that call comp get treated like they know nothing when in reality it is the other way around.

I tried emailing that guy last week and wondered why I got no response?
Cam motion is simular to XER lobes right? I think FMS uses there cams and seem to make good power
thanks guys for the help, just cant see paying over 400 for a cam

Comp can be hard to deal with sometimes on cam help. That's why worth working with a shop. They'll have a direct connection and Comp won't blow them off like Comp blew you off. The guys answering the phone for cam help aren't the smart ones for the most part for custom applications. They are ok for general questions. Comp said it wasn't possible to do a 113 XE-R but my car has a custom 113 XE-R in it. I'd have never got what I wanted without the shop dealing with Comp.

Just for the record I talked with two techs at Comp. My statement is based on my direct experience trying to order a cam from them. I was told a 224 XE-R was too big and would have P to V issues. I was also told the lift on a 224 XE-R was .568 with a 1.7 rocker, which is incorrect. The Comp rep I talked with insisted that a 212/218 was a big cam and there was only ~5 to 10rwhp to be gained with any other cam. Most of the info I got on their Cam help line about LS1 cams was dead wrong. This was in Nov of 2002 and I decided after that talking directly with Comp about cams was hopeless on custom applications.
The shops ie MTI, TEA, WAR, TSP, LPE and list goes on etc don'tdeal with that sort of stuff and can really save one a lot of hassle in getting the right cam for your application IMO.
I'm sure there is probably a smart one with a clue on the cam help line somewhere but I never did find that person.
