Default Should I do heads or a cam?

I cant decide if I should put a set of heads on my car, or pay a shop to put in a cam. I have about 1600 to spend and I am looking for the best sotp feeling. If i did heads, I would buy a set of 799's and send them off to AI, if I do a cam, it would be a TSP Torquer V3. The car rarely see's the track and is a nice day toy. I wish i could install the cam on my own, but I have no tools for the springs. I am open to all suggestions

hmmmm, if I was in your position, I would do a cam. I feel like if you bought heads then sent them out to be worked on but didn't change the cam it wouldn't give you your full monies worth.

I'd get a set of nice 243 heads and mill them down a bit. A nice set of heads can make a big difference, and a huge difference when you do decide to do the cam >

You wouldn't get nearly all the benefit out of a pair of nice heads with the stock cam. You already have pretty well flowing heads, so a cam should definitely be first.

A guy on here makes a tool for the springs. Just a few bucks and you can do the install yourself.

Don't forget to keep upto $500 for a good tune either way...honestly I wouldn't buy a set of heads for under $1,500....once you are to the point of needing heads I would get the best heads I can, so I don't have to buy another set later down the road

Since your thinking about 799 heads why not look into TSP's 2.5 ls6 heads. They have the upgraded valves and their package isn't much past your budget. Then you wouldn't have to worry about changing springs and save a lot of money doing it yourself.

Well... until you break a spring or drop a valve and then those nice heads are scrap metal. I would feel less bad about wrecking a nice set of budget heads.

Your not gunna get full potential from the cam on stock heads either. Id just buy everything for cam then wait til u have heads and do both. All the cam nutswingers will disagree im sure

Agreed. Probably the most reasonable compromise. Personally, I'd be looking at heads first...then a cam to take the best advantage of them. But to each, his own.
