Default Heads/Cam Build Thread

Alright guys, I need a critique and suggestions. I will be posting all dyno numbers, track times, and graphs up as I get them.

(I do not daily drive the car, it does have 117k on the stock bottom end but has been properly maintained, and I dont want to rev to 7k to get power out of it either)

I will try to get a baseline stock HP, and stock track times as well. Before and after.

I found a set of TEA/TFS 215's that I will be going to pick up tomorrow so the build starts!

The only place I am hung up on is cam selection and if I should have the heads milled... (found out they already have 60cc chambers so that is where I am going to stay. Thunder Racing recommended 59cc's)

Cam I am going to run:

TR RAPTR Cam

The rest of the build is as follows:

All tuned by Patrick G

1.TEA/TFS 215's (maybe milled for more compression)
2. One of the cams stated above
3.Ls6 intake (for now)
4.LG longtubes
5.Stainless 3in catless Xpipe
6.Pushrods
7.LS2 timing chain
8.Melling High volume oil pump
9.Ported stock TB
10.Ls7 lifters
11.New Lifter Trays
12.ls7 clutch kit
13.Lucas 37lb injectors
14.all required gaskets/bolts

I am sure I am missing some things but after looking over 5 quotes, numerous build threads my head feels like mush.

Trick Flow 215's ported by TEA and the Manton Pushrods:

Here is the car that is getting all these great parts:

Thanks!

Why do you suggest the street Sweeper over the rest?

what tranny ?you are not too far from Geoff at EPS,if Pat-G is tuning it let him spec a cam for it you won't regret it.you will need better rod bolts.you will need a bigger fuel pump and injectors.

Out of those cams I would go with the raptr I believe they cut it on a 111 lsa and with those heads it should have decent power down low and killer mid/top end power!!!

Yeah, I was told on the RapTR that it will make decent power down low... But I know that street sweeper does even better

I wouldn't do an off the shelf cam..Go with a custom spec cam. That way it will fit your build.

Updated with a couple pics of parts that I got for it this weekend.

Orderd my Comp cams billet double roller timing chain, Melling HV oil pump, ARP head bolt, Rod bolts, balancer bolt and cam bolts today.

Found a good deal on some Lucas 37lb injectors and Thunder Racing RapTR cam for a good price so I may end up with that stuff.

The previous owner of these heads say they are the factory combustion chamber, however when Thunder specs these heads they almost always suggest milling to bump the compression so I am going to have to have the combustion chambers spec'd out.

Well I have all my gaskets, ARP rod bolts, balancer bolt, cam blots, head bolts.

I also decided to go with the Melling HV oil pump, COMP trunion kit, and I am still up in the air on the Intake manifold and upgrading to 1 7/8 headers instead of what I have now.

I will have build pics and dyno numbers sooon!

I've been told that you can run the RapTR with TFS 215's milled to 59cc's and stock MLS gaskets.. 11.4 to 1 static.

wytry- That is what I was told by Thunder Racing as well. I purchased the heads second hand and they have very few miles on them. I had the heads CC'd to find out what size they are and looks like they where milled to 60cc's already so I am going to leave them there I think.

I feel that most of these off the shelf cams started out as custom grinds...think about it. If you call Thunder Racing and you tell them what you want to do with the car, they have a cam for just about anything you use the vehicle for, and they match the heads and the rest of it around the cam. They even go as far as to recommend milling the TFS/TEA 215's to a 59cc chamber.

what arp rod bolts did you get ?with most ls rod bolts you must resize the big end of the rod to keep it round.check for threads on rod bolts for more info.

I believe the 2000s I will have to make sure. How are people doing them in the car then?
