Default LS1 vs 6.0

Hi Guys..... I'm new to the LS motor thing, so I am looking for some input here. I have an LS1 (02 Camaro) with a T56 6 speed and a Ford 9" (3.90 gear) for my 69 Camaro. I've come to the conclusion that if you ask 10 people, you will get 10 different answers..... My question is this, I have a set of 799 heads and an LS6 intake for the motor (LS1), should I put a stroker (383) crank kit in and bolt on my parts---- OR----- I have a 6.0 iron block, should I keep the stock bottom end in this motor and put my money in a set of ported L92 heads and a FAST intake/throttle body. I know there are many variables in the equation..... Basically, I can spend all my money on the stroker kit for the LS1 or put the heads/intake on the 6.0. Obviously, both motors would get a new cam/headers..... THOUGHTS????

Most people are going to ask what your goals are and what your budget is, just so you know, so might want to be a little more specific. L92 heads flow very well as you may know, even unported but that doesnt make it the best option for you. If your are expecting less than 600 rwhp, I would stick with the LS1, primarily beacause of weight.(assuming both blocks are in identical condition).

I'd go with the 6.0 (if the extra 80lbs won't hurt your setup) and go with the best cathedral heads you can afford.

What he said. The stroker kit is the same amount of money weather you're building a 383 or a 408.

I guess my choice is to stroke the LS1 and use the 799s and LS6 intake (option1) or Use the 6.0 with the stock bottom end(nonstroked) and put a nice set of heads (L92/ported) and an intake (FAST?). will I end up making about the same power??

LS2 and newer run at least a 4.000" Bore (if not more, see LS7/LS3), where as a LS1 has a smaller one which can only be bored 0.010" which is still under the 4.000 bench mark.

Your techically adding weight on the iron block but your cylinder head choice opens up greatly and for most thats a major benefit of going newer block. ALL LS1's will need to have the sleeved bored out and fitted with darton type sleeves. Some can do this on the cheap if they have connections but often for the average guy. Better to buy the block and go from there.

Basically you will handicap yourself due to not having a optinum Heads/Cam setup to support the 383 where as you can a little more on the cubes and get a better breathing top end.

That is how I sees it. If I missing something, let me know.

Or, buy the best stroker crank and rods you can, then later down the road you can put them in an lq4 block and just buy new pistons to fit the new bore
