Default Seized up engine? Camaro SS

Hello I have a fellow friend who also has a ls1 ss camaro and he thinks he needs a set of rod and main bearings. He wanted me to ask on here about how much they cost for the parts? and where to order them.

Also if there is any people that could know what his car is 100 percent doing here is what his ss is doing.
He was driving it while it said low oil and then his car shut off and then he turned it right back on while he was driving it to the gas station. Then he said it died 2 more times at the gas station. Then here is the problem, while there was no oil in it while it was still hot , he poured new oil in it to fill it up again and there he thinks he messed up his rod and main bearings since the engine was hot still. Now that car wont start at all but he dosnt know what it is. I was thinking fuel pump or fuel filter first before thinking its seized up. If any more info is needed to concude the problem just let me know. I would like to help him out and also on the price for the bearings thanks and god bless

From ebay, I just ordered standard-sized rod & main bearings made by King.
They are used often by engine builders, and have a very good rep. $68 for the set/free shipping. You're going to at least need new GM rod bolts, too. GM 11610158

Does the engine rotate when you turn the key?
Why do you say that there was no oil?

put a socket on the crank bolt and try to turn the motor over . . . why would you drive with no oil in the first place?????? he's supposed to have 6 quarts in there and he had none???

He's going to need a helluva lot more than just bearings after this. Not only did his engine seize once due to no oil, he continued to drive and start it over and over again...and now it won't start at all.

If you want to help, I'd start with taking him over to a junkyard and looking for an engine.

If you wanna be a true friend, talk him into selling the car and buying a Honda Civic, if he can't take any better care of his car than that he doesn't need it. I pull my dipstick once a week and check the oil.

LOL at this statement. I like how he drives it around with no oil, and with a low oil light staring him in the face, but it was adding oil to a hot engine that destroyed the bearings, lol.

The engine is probably done for, and I don't think the internals will be good either. Probably warped a few parts from the heat/no oil. Crank/rods probably got scuffed up with no oil and would need to be grounded down IF they are usable...in that case stock sized bearings won't work and you'd have to know how much material was removed before you even order bearings.

Simplist thing to do at this point is find another engine to throw in. If he takes it out to rebuild it...it'll only be a little more money to do forged internals rather than replace stock with stock.

I heard these don't need oil since they have over head cams...

No but seriously, it is time to look for a new motor, and please keep on him to maintain his new engine.

On another note....my fiancee told me last week that i should look at her car cause a light was on on her dash. I looked at it and Yup! It was the oil light! She said it was on for the last week lol. Well last night I pulled her (Ford Escort) into the garage to replace what was left of the oil pan gasket and while i had it off I dropped a rod cap to check the bearings......they looked perfect even tjough the xar has 200,000 miles on it and when i met her i know of atleast two times I added 3.5-4 quarts of oil to it when it only holds 4.5 quarts.....I was shocked at how it not only runs, but looks great inside! Lol
