well as most of you know my ls2 went kaput.. i was moving the heads around today and i grabbed the one that had not been damaged by the piston and i heard something come out of it.. turns out to be this

thought to myself ...where have i seen that before.. then it hit me i looked and sure enough i found this

You probably just stretched the snap rings too far when you reinstalled them.

How much side play do you have on the rockers? Is the center of the rocker hitting the snap ring by chance? Could be the problem, but if they are fine I would just put new snap rings on and run them.

Strange failure. I'm thinking there must have been a stress riser/defect in that snap ring. The snap ring sits in the trunnion groove and there really isn't any load on it besides it's own spring tension. Look in the groove on the trunnion and see if maybe there's a flaw/protrusion in the groove that might have caused stress on the snap ring.

It is more than one rocker tho... Some are broke on both sides! Just glad I found it now instead of when I was having to pull my head again to replace a spring or even have to rwbuild the motor... This is truly strange

I'd be contacting Comp Cams to see if anyone else has reported this failure. It's possible they had a bad batch of snap rings that had some kind of defect or maybe weren't heat treated properly.

How long has that Trunnion Kit been installed?

Trickflow heads aren't the ones you have to run roller tip rockers on are they?

I'd say this is wrong. Obviously there's a problem and simply replacing them may not fix the cause of the problem. Replace them and cross your fingers it doesn't happen again?

THIS^

And like raven154 said, you may have spread the rings too far during installation.

The rockers have been upgraded for over a year and my cam specs were 230/238 .600/.604 112+2... I hope it was just the snap rings being over stretched because my new cam is beastly compared to my old

I don't know about that stretching them too far comment. They are meant to be expanded for installation just like any snap ring. But it is possible they were a defective bunch as most snap rings are very tough and hard to break like those did.

I agree. Just try and break one on purpose. Very difficult.
