Default Build my engine off this cam...

So I acquired a camshaft recently for free. I just want to hear everyones thoughts on what parts I should also run with, or even if this cam is capable of producing the numbers I want.

I have searched many threads for this cams specs, and have come up with very little. What I am looking to gain, is a good overall and driveable street machine with a minimum of 400 rwhp, if possible.

The cam's specs are as follows:
•Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 283/283
•Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 221/221
•Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .558/.558
•LSA/ICL: 114/110
•Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
•RPM Range: 2500-6000

Car is a 2000 Z28, with an A4 and 110K miles.
I do plan on running longtubes and an ORY. I am also planning on a shift kit as well as a stall, but just not sure what size to go with. Also been thinking about going to 3.73 gears and ditching the 3.42 i have now...

Any input, advice, or options to consider would be greatly appreciated.

With stock heads, 400 rwhp with that cam probably won't happen but thats just my opinion. That having been said, it is on the smaller side and would work very nice as a daily driver with good street manners on a stock bottom end and heads. If I were in your shoes, I defiantly wouldn't build my setup around that cam. Even if it was free. There are too many off the shelf cam that will produce more power under the curve, and peak hp that are very street friendly. I would sell that cam, and put that money towards something like a 228R.

Like said, you wont make those numbers with just a cam. You will either need to.go much bigger, or consider a nice set of heads which would be ideal. Yank SS3200 stall and those 3.42s will be very quick out of hole and still be plenty driveable, and not just blow the tires off all the time. Be sure to get a good tranny cooler as well.

Maybe I should have been more specific,.. I do plan on adding heads. I guess thats what I was asking was what head combination would match this cam the best? And yes,.. maybe 400hp is a bit over zealous,.. but I don't think it is out of reach with heads, intake, and other mods...

With this size cam is look for a set of small port heads and forget about HP numbers....you could easily build a very strong street car. Look at AIs website, they offer a few versions of stock casting with different port sizes

Why are you going with that small of a cam? You can get a bigger, better performing cam and still be easily daily drive able and still make great power.

^ This. You don't necessarily need to get a set of prc 215, or 227, or anything like that because at that point the heads are capable of way more than that cam and it's money down the drain so to speak if you don't foresee a big cam in the future.

i think that is the old MTI B1 cam,or very similar specs to it.good cam back in the day,and not a bad cam today if you want a mild build,good overall powerband that is easier on the valve springs.i don't see 400rwhp even with heads and a Fast through an A4.if your looking to save money and aren't concerned about big #s,go with a set of stock 243s,3000 or so stall TQ and be done with it.that would be a fun street car that wouldn't break the bank.

As far as heads, I would go with some nicely ported 5.3s and get your comp ratio up. Shouldn't have any PTV issues with that small life and duration.

As far as stall stick with something on the small side to keep in the cam's power curve, 3200-3600 along with 3.73s would work well.
