Default gold/copper dust on new rebuilt

Need some input on this.

If I have a gold/copper dust in my oil filter, what is it ? Should I reopen the block and check or run thicker oil ? Right now i'm on regular 10w30 oil

Engine have arround 500 miles. On cold start, I have 40psi no noise and when hot, I have 10psi at iddle and some valvetrain noise. Have 20psi when i'm at 5000rpm

Machine shop is out of business.

Engine is a 346/LS6 whit forged internal.

I would check the motor 1st. Could be a few things, maybe bearings...

Low oil pressure and gold dust in oil filter doesn't sound like a very great combo. My old TBI 350 did the same thing, no noise, ran good, just no oil pressure. Turned out to be a spun main bearing.

That oil pressure at idle and at 5000rpm is too low.During the rebuild I hope you replace the oil pump and timing chain? That valvetrain noise is very bad for the lack of oil uptop.I wouldnt suggest running the motor any longer.I get 55psi on cold start up,60psi when im on it,39psi hot at idle on my cammed motor with stock pump as a comparison.

Wow, so there is something wrong on this built Oil pump is a ported LS6 and new timing chain. I got 60psi on cold at 5k rpm. I was hopping for the ''O'' ring at the pump was the trouble but the gold/copper dust tell something else.

copper color material could be the thrust surface going away. Check crank end play....
Given the psi U R reporting, I'm with the other posters, shut it down, and take it apart...

Its definitly time for a teardown!! I would assume you cut open the filter, or did you just find the particles while draining?

I cut open the filter. Did not drain the oil since I change it 200miles ago. I did alot of search here and that why I remove the filter first and cut it.

Always go the cheaper way first and move on to other cheaper possibility

That sounds like you are down into the bearings somewhere. Crack it open now so you can save it, otherwise you are going to be buying a new rotating assembly. You know now why the machine shop is out of business.

95% Chance you ate a bearing somewhere. Thurst, rods or mains are all possible. Could be from any number of reason, clearances too loose or tight, problems priming the oiling systems on initial start up, etc.

Youre getting loud valve train noise because where ever the bearings are damaged at, the clearances are high, oil is flowing right past and not getting to the lifters.

You get any kind of warranty from the shop? I know you said they're out of business, but just because the shop is closed doesn't mean the business itself is dissolved.

Those oil pressures seem a little low fellas...my 2001 SS with 111k miles, factory engine holds 60+ at cold start, 45+ at hot idle, and goes up over 65 or 70 when I get on it.

This sucks dude, I feel for ya. This place had just one person? I'd hunt him down and get my money back. Perhaps even call the cops. You hired this guy to perform a service, you pay him and he disappears. Sounds like he's gonna setup somewhere else and do just one job then "go out of business" again.

I understand, but the shop is not actually "the business." Its just a place where you do business. If the business itself still exists you can probably get some kind of compensation.
