Default Can you swap reluctor wheels?

Like title says, can you change the reluctor wheel on the ls cranks? I bought a 2005 lq9 and was planning on building a 408, but now to save money might build a 370 instead reusing stock crank. Since it has 58 tooth wheel, can i have that replaced with a 24x so everything works properly with out needing any other parts?

If you can replace them, where would i get a 24x one? Also how do you install it so the teeth are in the correct position so the computer knows the correct angle of the crank?

There is an installation tool which correctly clocks the reluctor wheel in relation to the crank.

Goodson makes the tool that we prefer and use in our machine shop to align/install wheels correctly!

how much is a new wheel and how much is the tool? i'm still debating the 370 versus 408 build. wondering with a blower if there is that much of a difference for hte additional price.

I have another question about this reluctor wheel. I don't physically have it in front of me and i never counted the teeth, was just assuming it was 58x. The engine is a 2005 lq9, or so i was told. So it is still a gen 3 engine. Wouldn't htis have the 24x reluctor wheel? cause it doesn't have any timing pickup in the front cam cover.

I'm new to ls engines, but this crank had what looked like two rings on it. Is this how it should look? I'm looking to see if anyone knows are all lq9/lq4's no matter what year a 24x crank?

Ok perfect. I'm not 100% certain it is an 05 cause the guy seemed to lie about a few things about the engine. However if it is an lq4 or lq9 it has to be a 24x, right?

Look at the crank sensor, black housing =24x a gray housing =58x and the 24x reluctor wheel is a 2 piece as where the 58x is one piece.

The rings are affordable..the tool is ridiculous, over 250 last time i looked. you had better be careful with the ring, too much runout and the engine wont run.

This you might also want to put two tac welds on it so it wont spin just to be safe.
