Default 224r cam 35^ hp?, Sound stockish on 114 lsa?

Ok guys I am looking for a cam that will get me some good gains in the 220-228 duration range, sound like stock with the idle raised to about 1000 rpm or so, make power down low, and be common enuf I can get by on a mail order tune. Bryan at pcmforless has always done my tunes and kicks *** for a mail order tuner! I had a professional tuner do a tune on one of my cars after he tuned it mailorder and he could only pick up 5 hp with it and said it was almost nuts on. He has also tuned cammed cars for me before and has done a great job and I never have drivability issues and they made great power, but I want the cam to be common enuf so he won't have any troubles getting it down. I'm thinking a 224r on 114lsa seems to fit my goals more than anything, but would like to see if you guys agree. My main thing is I want it to sound pretty close to stock if I raise the idle up to 1000rpm or so so people can't tell it has a cam in it.

the 224 on a 114 is a great proven choice. But i would step up to atleast a minimum of a 228/228 on a 114.

224 is a good choice. Get the cam and tune and enjoy! Hope you have a manual trans or a converter. My 220 pushes through the brakes with the stock stall.

224R on a 114 is definitely a nice choice for what your looking to do. Keep in mind it still has some decent chop to it, but raising the idle should help with that a little.

Would it sound close to stock at 1000 rpm or no?

It will smooth the idle out a bit but anyone who knows much about cars will realize you've got more going on than just bolt ons.

Please could you stop and get out of this frame of mind. If you want the cam not to be noticed, get a stealth grind.
Similar to 224/224 a stealth 224/220 .581/.581 116 LSA

Raising idle will only make you waste good gas.

My TR224/224 112 has a nice lope to it, nothing extreme though. The lope was more extreme through a LM exhaust; in fact, I was getting hassled so much by LEO I switched to Hooker catback.

Personally, the 112 LSA version is perfection to me. I know I'd be disappointed with a 114.

When I was shopping cams I told everyone what I was looking for, and PREDATOR-Z recommended the TR224/224 112 LSA. I couldn't be happier. I'm sure PREDATOR-Z knows that something like the 224/220 116 is exactly what you're looking for.

Yea, but I don't want to have to spin the motor high to make power. I will have to rev higher with the 116 lsa right?

I used the have the thunder racing 224 cam on a 114. With all the bolt ons, I had 370 RWHP and it didnt have much lobe. I sounded near stock and had graet manners.

Then I sent with a 228R on a 114 with AFR heads and a FAST 90/90 system. The car has lobe, and actually more lobe sound because how I tuned it, but I have just over 450 RWHP with 3.90 gears.

click on the attached to see how it sounds on the dyno and at idle:

No, it will peak at 6200 rpm with a LS6 intake. You can shift anytime after that with good results. I ran this cam for a good 2 years and it was a very pleasing street fighter. Had it on a 3200 stall and 3.73 gears.
Ran 11.2x at 120 mph with it in full trim.

what about just getting the 224r on a 116lsa so it would be easier to get a mail order tune on? Or they also have the 220r on texas speed

Man you just keep hopping around from cam to cam. Why don't you contact TSP and discuss it with them.

Lol if I'm driving you nuts imagine how I feel. I've never been so sure about so me different cams and than end up changin my mind every time. I'm pretty postive I'm getting damn close. I KNOW it's going to be in the 220-224 range with a 114 or 116 lsa. Really I am narrowed down to the 224r on 114 or 116 lsa. If I closed my cutout and ran it through my magnafow I bet it would be damn hard to tell if it had a cam or not.

Dont go any lower than the 224 cam.

Do the 224 on a 114 and really most people wont notice and it has no downside

Yea I think that's what I'll do. My exhaust is so queit going through the catback if I ever have a race when I don't want someone to know I will just cap the cutout.

The old LPE GT2-3 cam would work okay for what you want too. They pop up on the Vette forums a lot unused. I think new they are still pricey($430???). With stock rockers they don't lope at all. Two guys here gained about 2 tenths and 1-2 mph average on their post 01 Z06 cars.
