Default Picked up TFS 220 as cast...Cam suggestions?

So I'm getting ready to do my head/cam swap and I have a few questions...or more user input than anything. I just bought TFS 220 as cast heads and I would like a little input on a good cam to pair with these heads. I'm shooting for like 450rwhp(more the better) with an ls6 intake (for now). I'm going to be running yella terra 1.7 RR, different springs, and I'm going to mill the heads down some (input on that would be great too). I'm thinking around like 11:1 compression. Here in NV we have 91 on tap. I'm not sure if I can get away with more but I dont know. My last motor I built was a 515rwhp T trim Fox Body. I've never done anything with high compression. I was looking at the Vengeance VRX5 cam but I wasn't sure. I figured I'd ask for some input. I have a custom 8.8 rear with 4.10 gears. Anyways here are the heads...

I would love to help you with a camshaft recommendation and set-up of your combo.

We use the TFS heads here at Tick Performance nearly exclusively in any build that a customer wants an aftermarket cylinder head to be used in so I have extensive knowledge on what works well with these.

The 91 octane deal is no problem either! We can keep the DCR down low enough while still keeping some cylinder pressure to make this thing fun to drive.

Shoot me a PM, email or call the shop Monday!

EPS,TEA,vengeance racing have cams that work good with this head.most numbers involve a fast 92 intake.

I believe the tfs kits from summit are crank rated hp.the vr5 should make close to 470 rwhp with full bolt on and a good tuner.EPS has a good cam for TFS heads, contact Goeff or Patrick.you should consider shimming the intake if you are using a fast intake.good heads don't need radical cams.

Have you ever seen what our polluter has done with the TFS 215's?

Just the other day in near 100 degree weather and 80% humidity we had a TFS 215/Polluter/Fast 102 set-up make 470rwhp on a very safe tune timing and AFR wise.

This same customer will be coming back in the fall for a re-try at the 480rwhp mark all in a 346!

The cam I am using for Bwolf will be in the mid to low 230's range on intake and mid to high 230's on exhaust. Nothing radical here on very controllable lobes.

I'm going to be giving Tick Performance a call tomorrow so we can get the ball rolling on the custom cam.

Is it worth the time to smooth out the runners on these heads when I get them milled? Or should I just leave them be.

I'll be waiting for you to call!

I would discuss it with your machinist and see what he thinks, but I would think it would be worth something. Also see if you can have your LS6 intake port matched to your heads, that will also be worth something too.

All the little stuff adds up and pays dividends in the end.

Brian it was great talking with you today.

I have thought over the lobes we talked about and discussed with both camshaft profiles and I think I have decided to stick with the first profile as the 1.75 rockers are really no different than the 1.7 rockers from a lobe intensity point of view. I think I was being a little gun shy, but after talking with an esteemed colleague I feel OK with the first profile.

Call me tomorrow if you can.

Sounds good martin. I will give you a call in the morning and see how everything went. I'm pretty confident that you made a good decision. I'm sure that the cam with these heads should make some decent power.

Thank you for the kind words.

Your cam isn't anything out of the norm as far as profiles go and as I told you we have a car here now that has made over 440rwhp and 417rwtq. on a very safe tune AFR and timing wise with a cam smaller than yours and higher than stock compression(not sure how much). His does have a Fast102, but I am confident that with the higher compression you are going to have, bigger cam(not by much but enough) that you can make the same if not close to the same power he has.

I can vouch that the polluter will put down good power. On speedinc's dyno my old combo put down 496rwhp. This was thru a 346/TFS 220/Polluter/Fast 102/M6/Dana60...

WOW!!!

I would say that is the highest recorded number we have ever had for our Polluter cam!!!

If you have the dyno graph for that pull we will post it on our website and send you a free Polluter T-shirt!!!
