Default H/C/I car down 1qt. oil after 500 miles

We did h/c/i on a buddy's car a couple months ago. Previously it was mostly all stock with bolt ons and didn't use any oil. Its a TransAm with 40k miles.

Now after 500 miles it is down a quart of oil. It runs strong and there was barely anything in the catch can.

Does this seem odd or excessive that it's using so much oil now?

What are the specs of the H/C/I? Any other abnormal symptoms or further details you can provide (any other mods, amount of oil you use, etc.)? It's not completely abnormal for a ls1 to go through a quart of oil every 3-4k but something's not right if it's that low after 500 miles.

Going to ask a dumb question, but what heads were put on? Valve seals checked? Any holes that are not blind that go into the intake runners on the new heads? Without thread sealer on those bolts they can be a problem.

No oil leaks from the RMS area?

What thermostat is it running? Make sure the intake was installed with just the gasket for proper seal.

Well if theres not much in the catch can you have 2 things going on. You either have the catch can hooked up wrong (this happens more often than youd imagine) or you are losing oil in a bad place.

Parts we used were new TSP LS6 heads and 228r cam, ls7 lifters, SLP oil pump, GM MLS head gaskets, 160 degree thermostat, saku michi catch can, fast 102.

We triple checked catch can routing and referred to the post on catch can routing for reference.

There are no external oil leaks. No vacuum leaks anywhere. I think he put regular dino oil castrol 10w-30 in it. When he told me it was down a quart after 500the miles I didn't believe him until I saw the dipstick myself. We put another quart in so we'll see what happens in another 500 miles.

Like I said, prior to the mods, the car never used any oil in between oil changes. He runs regular dino oil and changes it every 3000 miles.

Did he go to a larger filter or a better brand that might have absorbed more? A quality oil filter will often suck up more than a junk filter

Just the standard size filter. Carquest or Napa brand I think. I'm pretty sure we dumped in 6 quarts before start up and it was showing just above the full line.

Broken ringlands.. Probably #7, pull the plugs and see which one is oily.
