Default what is this weird substance under my oil fill cap ???

so i'm headed home from the grocery store and stopped to fill up.....i just happened to check the oil and it was a little low......after buying a quart, i was surprised by this super gross, jelly-pudding-like slime under my oil cap....

sorry for the crappy pics, my phone is old......first thing i though was, "oh no, i've got a cracked head"......it was also in the top of the oil fill tube, but i couldn't see any farther down into the valve cover.....i checked the dipstick to see if it was in the oil pan, but it wasn't, the dipstick just looked like it had regular oil on it.....then i removed the radiator cap to see if there were black chunks floating in the coolant, but it looked normal.....the car runs as good as it always has, nothing weird, no power loss, no sputtering, overheating, or SES light......what is this goo?.....

have you gotten the car hot lately , that happens when you dont heat the engine up and burn off the water. Clean the cap off and just watch it . If you wanted to be sure change your oil too .

Usually if its coolant you would see it on your dipstick as well but you can always pressure test your cooling system to be sure.

I would suggest an oil & filter change.

Its definitely a little much if you ask me, you should not have that much condensation. You either need to take your car on longer trips or change the oil less than 3 months. My .02

you dont have to let it warm up , get in it and drive it will heat up faster driving it, if your that close to work i suggest taking a longer ride , that buildup is a lot , do an oil change and keep an eye on it

I just changed my oil a few nights ago and discovered a little bit of that residue as well. I used to work at an auto shop and found that plenty of cars have that stuff under the oil cap. I would definitely just wipe it out, change the oil, and watch it after that. I don't think it's coolant in the oil though.

My Trans Am does the same thing. It sits 99 percent of the time and I only start it once every couple of weeks.

i do have the 160 thermostat....my job is about 20 mins away, but it's all interstate so i'm in 6th gear the whole way and the car just barely reads a rise in temp on the gauge by the time i get there......

once i got off work today, i lifted the hood and checked to see if anything collected under the cap from the drive in.......it was clean, but it looked a little wet too.....i'll change the oil asap and keep an eye on it from now on.......i'm so glad this is just condensation, i didn't want to have to buy a new set of heads yet or a new block......that would've set back my savings for a MWC 9"

The car only dyno'd 452/388 but it wasn't exactly dealt a good hand. It was 98 degrees in the dyno room, single 3" exhaust with 2.25 tail pipes, 4.10s, and 315s out back and a possible fuel pedal issue at the time. The best pass its ever made was 11.66 @ 120 with a broken valve spring on a 1.71 60 not to mention the DA is usually 3-5k feet. After we fixed the valve spring it went 11.70 at almost 122 with a 1.89 60. I know my car seems full of excuses but its true lol. When the track opens back up hopefully I'll crack 10.90s since I've got a Chrs1313 set up and some skinnys and new Hoosiers for the back. The DA and traction is killing it.
