depends what you want to do with the car. Honestly depending on your budget I would do a 408 iron which is a 6.0 l truck stroked. Your talking some serious power there. They could be build fairly cheap. Another option is just a 6.0 truck engine. You can get them dirt cheap if you search and throw a different cam and aftermarket heads close to 450-475hp. The ls2s on there are overpriced imo.

WAY too expensive. Thompson has some REALLY good deals going on right now for a shortblock. He has longblocks as well. I'd check with him, then you'll see how far fetched those prices really are.

I've felt the same way about pull outs on Ebay. It's seems like prices for LS1s and LS2s have gone up over the last few years. You'd think they'd be cheaper with all the 6.2s out there now.

I bought 00 TA LS1/t56 pull out on Ebay in 08 for $3000, average seemed to be $3500 and $4000 for the same pull out from a 01-02. Now they want $5300 for an 01 LS1/t56?! That's freaking ridiculous.

I use to see GTO LS2/t56 pull outs for $6500, now in that link there are 2 with autos for $6500 and $7000. Way too much for me. I hate autos anyway lol.

I bought a wrecked 00 TA with t56, 55,000 miles for $2800 delivered. That's $200 less than I paid for the same engine and Trans with more miles on Ebay and I have an entire car left to part out.

Also just picked up a 98 Camaro with LS1/t56, seller said bottom end froze up. I'm not home but he wanted $1500, so I gave him $1800 and he delivered it to my house. I'll inspect the engine when I get home but I needed a t56 and front accessories fit my 69 Firebird anyway, so for the cost of that stuff I have the rest of a car for free basically.

I need to figure out how to get in on these auctions where fparts and similar salvage yards are getting these cars

Some ppl think the LS stuff is made from platinum and price it that way.

I got my entire 408 shortblock package for less than $800. It was unassembled bit smart shoping can get you some killer deals. I waited two years but man did I score big time.

Look around you. In 08 the ls was still the "new kid on the block" that everyone was afraid of. Now, everybody and their brother is putting an ls in something.

Supply-demand....

Idk, I've been seeing plenty of LS swaps for years. I see all the same engines listed over and over again on Ebay, so obviously the demand isn't high enough for those prices.

I just picked up an LQ9 locally, but while I was searching I put a couple "best offers" in on some of those Fparts engines.

If you wait for a while, he does 10% off fairly often. We were close on price on one of them. Another time he must have been insulted because his counter offer was a joke. Just from my experience, you should be able to get one for 15-20% off his full asking price. Once he's discounted it by 10%, you won't be able to negotiate much more than another 5-10% off.

Take it from me...I payed too much.
I wasn't familiar with all of the alternatives in LS1 land.
Take your time, look around, and you'll find better deals.
