Default So...I think I broke something

So....last night I decided to take a quick look at my LS1 that I pulled last weekend. Pulled it because I thought I had a spun bearing. I wasn't expecting this:

#8 piston

#7

Still had good oil pressure, even was running strong, just made noise, lots of it.

Last Thanksgiving I bounced off the rev limiter 2 times by accident trying to roll out from a burn out. I missed the line lock release switch and it hit the rev limiter before I could get my foot off the pedal. For 20 mins I thought I was fine and drive it home. Next day I start hearing ticking noise. Thought it was bent PR or stuck lifter. Pulled the heads, had them checked, #4 intake valve had to be turned & seated. Reinstalled the heads, new CM PR, and LS7 lifters. Took it for a test drive, on the second time it got so much worse. Limped the car home.

None of the connection rods feel loose (like it would with a spun bearing). I turn the crank a few turns and didn't see anything hitting the pistons.

I'm stumped.

Cam lobe sheered? Timing chain stretch?

Looks like you have a nice excuse to build a motor now..lol!

So the only damage you found was a broken skirt?

Currently building a 6Liter. I had intended it to be a 408, but since this, I had to change my plans. I'll do a 408 later.

Bounced it only twice?! I've launched my car a few times to have it bounce while I try to regain traction. Unless the previous owner was bouncing it like a ball? lol

So anyone care to guess what broke the skirt? I was expecting the op to say "yes tons of piston slap".

this is looking up from the oil pan at the #8 cylinder (top of pic, the one with the damage) and # 7 cylinder (bottom of pic).

The angle is an illusion, the cam is higher then it appears. The damage is the bottom of the cylinder just before the sleeve.
