Default Low oil pressure Cam only LS1

Like the title says, changed the cam out about 2000 miles ago, just recently I've noticed the oil psi sits at about 15psi right after the red area, when at operating temperature, I know this cannot be normal. The cars a 2000 Camaro doesnt knock, tap, click or anything. Actually just got back from a 600 mile trip yesterday. No noises whatsoever. I did have to change out the sending unit after ls6 intake swap (swapped same time as cam). Could theoil pump o ring be pinched? I'm not driving it anymore since I noticed that

Could be a faulty gauge as well. Was it okay before the cam?

Could be the opsu,if u buy the cheap ones on autozone and known auto parts they fail.cheapest thing is check if u didint break it on while installing it .they break easy.or just take it out and return it and try it with a new one. You could also try putting a mechanical aftermarket guage .stock oil pressure guages they say they arnt that accurate.wordt case oil pump

As said above,
Was the pickup tube removed during the cam swap?
Did you replace the cam retainer plate?
^They tend to leak once removed for the first time if they have a ton of miles on them.^
What weight oil are you using?
How did the cam bearings look?

Could be a sending unit, hopefully that's what it is. All the above are the worst case scenarios

A cam retainer plate could cause low oil pressure?

If the seal is completely flattened out oil can leak out from in between the plate and the block.

Hmm I hope that wasn't my original problem. On my new motor I put the same one back on. Really hope that wasn't my problem and I have to tear the engine back down again

pick up tube O-ring if not the correct one ( orange in color from GM) can cause low oil pressure by letting air get by

Strange, here 2000 miles later. I can't see it being the O-ring after this much time has passed.

I would tear it down and replace it. They are very cheap all things considered when it comes to having low oil pressure.

True...

OP, was the oil pump replaced/removed or during you just do a cam swap?

If it was not removed then I seriously doubt its the o-ring. If it was then hey, its possible.

Sorry guys. Dont have a computer so I'm forced to use my phone, which is inconvenien.
I run Mobil1 5-30. The oil pump tube was removed however the gasket set came with several o rings. I chose the one that looked like it fit. I replaced the front cam bearing because I gouged it while pulling the cam and didn't want to run it as is. I had a friend of mine whom is a mechanic for a living replace it correctly. Only thing I can think of is that it got very hot where I live all of a sudden and maybe the oil is breaking down more? The sensor was from Advanced Auto (I know, sue me) but it's the good branded BWD I believe it's called, I didn't over tighten it, just snugged it. The cam retainer plate was replaced and torqued to Gm spec, the gasket did look flat. There's 93000 miles on the stock LS1. I'm afraid to drive the thing though, and yes the oil pressure seemed fine prior to cam swap. Might drop oil pan and check o ring. Where would I hook up a mechanical guage? Because I have several laying around

I still haven't taken a look at it. Busy with some other things, yesterday I drove it and at a hot idle the needle was just a hair away from the red line. Even though I used a bad sensor from Advanced, I don't think that's the issue. From researching other threads it seems to me like a pinched o ring. I have an automated mechanical oil pressure guage but I do not know where to hook it up to

Decided to try heavier oil and different filter and gained a few psi but nothing major. I'm still lucky to have an indicated 15psi at a hot idle, and here it's about 85 degrees. I'm considering buying the glowshift oil filter plate that has the built in sending unit for their electronic oil psi guage. Or should I tear down and check the o ring? Is it accessible if I drop the oil pan?

I can tell you this much if it was the oring it would be ticking and tapping so that aint it. You need to check the op with a manual gauge to see where its at. Could be the retainer plate leaking OR the cam bearings. Personally although its on the low side you are still ok as long as it doesn't get any lower. Does the oil look clean?
