Default Grinding Rings?

Took my block and rotating assembly to the machine shop yesterday and got a call from them today asking if I was going to run nitrous/boost, etc. I said yes and then he said that they will need to grind the rings about 10 thousandths. Not to sound dumb, but why does this matter when running power adders?

more power = more heat = more expansion. you need a larger end gap to compensate for this so you don't break rings / ring lands / destroy cylinder walls etc.

Makes sense. I had that idea in mind, but have never really thought about that I guess. I appreciate it!

The more power you make, the hotter things get. The hotter things get, the more they expand. You open up your gaps to prevent the ring ends from butting, wich is no good lol.

Would this effect the engine when running N/A, performance wise?

No you won't notice... Some might say you'll have a little blow by... But that it caused more by cylinder roundness vs ring gaps..

Granted that 10 thousandths isn't much at all, just wondering if it will still run well without the spray. Wont be sprayed for probably 1000 miles after the break in period.
