Default Wanting to step down from the Trex Cam. Suggestions?

Hello guys,

I have a 2002 Camaro SS. 6-speed with AI 226CC heads, trex cam and port matched fast 92 mm intake. Im looking to get rid of the trex cam and looking for something that I can use with my heads and intake with as well with my 4.30 gears. The car is a weekend car. The trex is just to much and im afraid that its already to much for my motor that has 90k on it. I would like something that has a little chop and isnt a bitch on the streets. I was thinking a brute speed cam. I would like opinions on cam options thanks all

A lot of people have used our Brute Speed cam on N/A builds and typically pick up 60 rwhp over a stock cam. It works out very well. Bob

Why not talk to Geoff at EPS, the creator of that cam?

If you ask him, he'll flat out tell you he hates that cam and everything about it. I'd call him and tell him what you want, what your goals are, and have him grind it for you. It'll be from Cam Motion as well.

Eps 230/234, futral f13, something from Ed Curtis....I'd go with the third choice if it was a weekend only car.

consider a Ed Curtis street sweeper cam.or consider a EPS cam with less duration numbers.

I would talk to Geoff @ EPS about something else.

Overlap wise, you're at 25 degrees now, which is an awful lot. You could drop down to 14-16 degrees and still make a ton of power and get back quite a bit of streetability.

Something like an EPS 234/242 112+4 or so would work well.

I just ordered a 234/242 112 +4 with .629 lift from EPS. Should be a solid performer without all the driveability issues related to all the large overlap camshafts.

The 234/242 is an old GM grind that always made huge power.

LG brought it to the LS1 with the G5X3 and cams similar have always made phenomenal power. They have enough overlap to make power without having so much overlap that drivability is absolutely horrendous. You don't gain much on them by stepping up to considerably bigger cams, so those grinds sort of represent the best balance of max power and decent streetability.

You already have AI heads, why not talk to them about a cam? Id go that route or talk to Ed Curtis and Geoff at EPS. Any of those guys will sell you exactly what you need to make you happy.

Anything that cuts your overlap by 50% will drive worlds better than what you have now. I have several cams that can still make damn near if not what you made with your T-rex cam and drive much better.

Not to mention gain back a ton of under the curve power as well.

I love AI cams because they make good power but have mild lobes.

I just put in their 230/238 and I like it so far. It drives and idles basically the same as the 224/230 I had in there.

They also cam doctor all their cams before they go out to ensure it's within +-1. Mine came out to 230.4/239.1 .

Really, anything 10 or less overlap is going to drive smooth enough for the street.

LS2 Street Heat Stage 2. 233/240 .619"/.588" 112+2 has 12.5 degrees of overlap which is a 50% reduction in overlap.
