Default Tsunami Camshaft

Found a good deal on a tsunami camshaft. I'm new to building motors, so I'm here to ask some guidance.

I've got a 5.3 lm7. Will it fit? What other mods/parts will be required? Is it good for a boosted motor? I do plan on adding a turbo.

Thanks in advance!

It should work, the 5.3's can use the same cams as LS1/LS6. but with that much lift you will need to replace your valve springs. That much lift will be too much for stock springs.

It will fit but thats way too big of a cam for a 5.3. Go with something in the low 220 range.

What are the negative affects of using the tsunami? Could they be compensated for by other mods?

A Tsunami in a 5.3 would be a overkill, the cam simply tries to move more air than the 5.3 can take in and out, and its not really a boost cam, its more of a max effort cam. A 220-224 range cam would suit your engine much much better.

Unless this was going in some insanely light vehicle you are going to find yourself without much lowend power. The tsunami is a good cam and we have made some big numbers with it, but it simply wont act the same in a 5.3. The 5.3 just doesnt have the displacement to move enough air. As stated before it would also be a poor boost cam.

Depeding on what you are doing with this motor I would really look into something in the low 220 range.

I went with a comp cam with around a 220 duration and 560 lift. Gives a broader power range from 1500-6500

There was a recent thread on camming a 5.3 and also a recent article in Car Craft (which is referenced in the recent thread). There was a lot of good information in that thread if you can find it. It was within the last couple of weeks.

Thanks, good read. I'll keep looking elsewhere then.
