Default Update on my car - bigger and better things!

Hi guys,

I wanted to give you all an update on my car. I was originally going to go with new ARE CNC 5.3L heads and a burly cam but upon taking the heads off we noticed the bore was worn. (300 plus passes on the short!)

We decided to take the bottom end apart for a fresh hone and found the thrust side of the crank was messed up. (Most likely from the tons of 6000-6400rpm dumps on slicks and the shock through the drivetrain)

So we put our heads together and decided on the following combo:

385ci Stroker LS1
Eagle 4 inch crank
Eagle 6.125 rods
Diamond pistons with valve reliefs 3.90X bore
ARP mainstuds/headstuds
NEW ARE CNC S2 heads with dual springs 2.055/1.57 valves
242/246 110LSA Comp cam XE-R lobes
~11.5:1 compression
New timing chain
New bearings, rings, gaskets etc
36# SVO injectors
Racetronix/Walbro 340 pump setup with complete wiring harness
LS6 intake, stock descreened MAF, ported stock throttle body
1 3/4 to 1 7/8th Edelbrock stepped headers with merge collector and dual cutouts

Looking for ~475-490RWHP and similar RWTQ through the 12bolt, heavy DS and clutch on slicks.

Should be a blast to drive when all is done!

I am going to do a full write up with pictures and video as the buildup progresses and host it on my site for you guys to see. Might test a few intakes as well.

mph goal is 128-130ish at 3500 pounds raceweight. 10.70 ETs would be nice but will depend on how aggressive I want to be on the track with the car after the buildup

Sounds like a mean combo. Good luck with the buildup.

Sounds awesome! Very similar to the combo going in mine except i have an ARE all bore going in and Kook's 1 7/8 LT's.

Why the choice to stick with the LS6 intake?

Thanks guys

Cam shouldn't be too bad. Dont let the LSA fool ya

Cash is a factor for the LS6 intake choice for now. (intake, T-body, MAF, Lid etc to do it properly)

I like how that TPIS loudmouth looks as well. It doesn't seem to have some of the fitment issues or vac leak issues of the FAST

Spray "might" be a possibility down the road but I'll probably pull the cam if I go that route and go with something a little more spray friendly

For now I want to enjoy the car NA and have that nice warranty

I'll have pics up after the weekend if all goes well

cheers and thanks

Why the low CR, I'd think for a race motor you'd want at least a 12:1, that's where a lot of the power is.

Hey Chris, why the 36lb injectors? for my all bore speed inc. had recommended 30lb'ers along with my Walbro intank. I'm gonna spray the motor too, but that would be a dedicated fuel system anyways, so no need for huge pump or injectors if a dry kit.

Curious exhaust choice. CI should absorb some of that aggressive cam. Thought about going with smoother ls6 MAF with corresponding PCM tables? That thing''s going to be a beast!

Sounds like a killer combo, Chris!

Any spray in the plans for this set up?

36# injectors should support 500RWHP easily at stock FP and be easy to tune, plus I am getting them off a forum member here

I thought about the MAF but I am already overbudget at this point. Next year will be intake mods and other stuff.

Why do you think the exhaust choice is interesting? 1 3/4 to 1 7/8th stepped headers should be ideal for this combo?

11.5:1 is all I want to go with at the moment for compression. That is a rough estimate right now but it'll be in that ballpark.

I thought that stepped and tri-Y heades are more for tq than hp, since many of the top hp cars I have seen have Grotts/FLP or similar LT headers. I hear they are about the same price.

That combo sounds sweet. No sleeves to leak and probably great torque too. A 3500 lb M6 car needs that. Our cars are pretty similar, and I'll be watching your results closely. Good luck.
