Default H/C/I LS1 or LQ4/9 with LS3 Top End?? Decisions.... Decisions....

I'm in the middle of deciding what I want to do next on my '00 Z28.

I've thought about having the stock 241 heads sent over to AI for their 219cc port work and getting a complementary cam. Then also going with a LS6 or FAST intake manifold.

The one thing I don't like about my LS1 is that it has some piston slap, as many an LS1 do have. And it seems to be getting worse. It quiets way down when it warms up, you really can't even hear it after it reaches 100* on the temp gauge. But, I don't know if it's really any good to be adding any power to it if the piston slap is getting any worse. And there really isn't any fix for the slap on an LS1.

Here comes my second idea.....

I was also thinking of pulling an LQ4/9 from a Truck of some sort and running L92/LS3 heads with an LS3 or L76 intake manifold. With, of course, a complimentary camshaft.

I've got a set of 1.75" TSP headers and y-pipe new-in-box as well just waiting to go on but I'm holding off on the install incase I end up just pulling the motor to swap over to an LQ block.

Any suggestions on my dilemma? Which is the better setup. At this point, I think it's going to cost me just as much either direction I go. This is a 4L60E car as well and I've also contemplated going to a T56 instead.

Thanks in advance and I appreciate any and all info and suggestions!

Same deal with me. But my motor has 100k more than you. So I'm torn between getting a low mile LS1 or LQ9 shortblock and adding heads/cam or going all out and buying a new big cube short block... I have no earthly idea what Im going to do.

I'd go with the LQ9, but I would prefer the cathedral heads rather than the LS3 style, especially if you put a T56 behind it. However, either head on an LQ9 shortblock should still make more overall power than a heads/cam LS1.

The main thing you will get with the 6.0 is more usable torque, which makes for more of a fun ride

I'd rule out using a LQ4 because of the low compression, and I'd also return or sell those 1 3/4 headers they'll be choking your motor either way you go. If you go with LS3 heads keep the auto so you can use a stall converter to overcome any lose in low end torque.
