Rod Knock
So here i am driving home everything is all fine and dandy in the world... then a squeak.... nothing big no worries almost home feeling relieved... another squeak.. now my attention is focused and then CLANK. BWALALAHACLANKA THUNKY THUNK RUNKY THUNK PLUNK CLUNK ETC ETC ETC....
yes... ive apparently lost a bearing a rod and now my beautiful car is land locked on the drive way....
assuming you had a 7000 dollar budget would you just repair what needs to be repaired or would you upgrade?? keep in mind you are getting married in one week and your future bride is still fuming over the 78 trans am you bought earlier this month as a build a toy project....
if you play it safe and just fix what needs to be fixed im glad im not you.. lol
but if you choose to upgrade and stay within budget what would you choose to do??

Tough questions. If it were me I would rebuild it and upgrade to a full on turbo setup. Could be done for about 7k.
BUT, since your about to wife is already upset, then maybe just a cheap rebuild. Replace whats broken. Wont cost too much.
Now with both of these said, if your like me, then go for the big build and screw the old lady. You were looking for a women when you found her, sooo.....

Do it right the first time or do it again. Hard to tell you how to spend $7,000 when we have not idea what you want. Do you want a 1/4 beast, a fast yet reliable car, a autocross killer? What you are looking for will dictate how to spend the $7,000. If it were me, I would spend about $2,000 on the WS6 to get it up and running and drop the remaining $5,000 on the 78 Trans am.

That's actually a really good idea.... And as far as the other questions I don't want to make this a track car of any kind really! A fast reliable car sounds about right, but I am tired of just telling everyone that the car has a stock engine everyone seems to expect for it to be modified lol!

And it's not a matter of wanting to spend 7000 but I can if needed! I figure If it's going to cost a 3-4000 to repair I might as well spend a bit more for something better than stock ya know what I mean?
Guess I figure you can't go wrong with a built bottom end even if you don't build the top right? Extra security right?

You can get a rebuilt 6.0 shortblock here for $2,000. Plan on another $1,000 for new lifters, gaskets and timing set and your good to go.

Don't have a sound clip but it lopes pretty hard. The specs are almost identical to the Magic Stick 3 cam but with more advance ground in. If you've ever heard the MS3 cam then you'll know how this one sounds

Bad idea...more torque that you will have a hard time hooking combined with a stock top end that will simply choke the motor up top. Just rebuild the 346 and put a good set of heads, ported fast, and a mild cam. It would blow the stock top end 408 away. Bang for the buck is also not always better. I would much rather stick with a Aluminum block for a NA build. That is 100lbs less weight over the nose of the car opposed to Iron.
