Default APE 408 or 347?

I messed up my motor last week and don't know for sure yet what is wrong but I'm thinking it's my rings and or "ring lands" So for the price it would cost me to get all forged internals and have my block worked over would cost me about the same as either short block. The mods are in my sig. I plan on using the 237/242 cam that is in my current motor, as well as my ported heads with the 2.02's and 1.57's. So my question is for the guys that have been in my boat and have done the motor swaps which one should I go with the 408 or the 347? And what are the advantages/disad. of each?
Thanks for any input
Brandon

Well, a 408 does not use a stock crank. It has a 4.000 stroker crank. So that would rule out the iron block 408 unless you want to spend the bucks for a stroker rotating assembley. For that price, I would rather have an aluminum 383. IMO. But yes, I would rather run a 408 over a 347 for sure.

if your on a budget you cant beat the 347, then just transfer over all your mods to the new motor.

Brandon, you should go with the challenge of running smaller cubes! IMO, but whatever you decide with I will help you.

with the 408 you need bigger valves, reworked heads, a bigger cam, crank, etc. It will me be much more cost efficient to do the 347. Just not as fun

I just did a APE 347 for a customer... engine was INCREDIBLE as far as looks and drivability... fired up on the first time and had a perfect idle with a G5X3 112 cam in it... I have a 408 on order for another customer... so soon as I put it in his car I will let you know how that one turns out
