Default sewing machine top end sounds

I have the NASTY sounding sewing machine sound now that I got my motor back together

stock rockers arms
7.4 pushrods
unmilled patriot 6.0 ls6 style heads
comp 850-16 lifters (preload like stock)
decked shortblock (not decked much)
g5x2 cam (smaller base circle than stock)

damn I hate this shitty sound. it gets loud.

I did use a pushrod length checker, it was **** so I just used 7.4's.

whats the fix? correct lifter preload/ pushrod length acheived with adjustable rocker arms like the new comps or jesel mohawks?

I thought with smaller base circles and uncut heads you had to run a longerthan stock pushrod to take up the slack?

yes it does, a stock pushrod is only 7.380, the base circle being around .020 smaller on the g5x2 puts it right at 7.4

The valvetrain is noisy with a bigger cam. Not much you can do. A set of HS roller rockers will quiet it down some.

Are those HS rockers superior to Yella Terras. I'd like to quiet it down a bit too. Not to mention a smoother and less dragged valvetrain.

The fast ramp rates of the cam, larger intake and exhaust valves, and stiffer springs will cause the noise you are talking about.... not much can be done about it.

I like my HS's they work great no float. I have heard tales of Valve float issues with the YT but I have no experience there. Maybe some one else can give you more factual info.

I have ran the YT's on my car without a problem. They have never caused me any valvefloat issues. If I was buying again.. I'd probably buy the HS ones due to their better price.

I forget which comp lifter p/n you listed.
Those aren't the Comp R's are they?
God I hated the noise the Comp R's made.

......with my ramp rate/hardened parts/spring rates/shaft mounts/etc. I can hear my valve train over open headers

even my old TR224/224 with stock lifters and rockers made noise....it's just part of trying to make power....

Ya i was worried about mine also with the patriot gold kit and the g5x3, feel much safer now. Almost stopped beating on it because of the noise
