Default I need a cam

What do you guys suggest for a cam. I have a 00 ws6 which is basically stock for the moment. Future upgrades will be lid, cutout, headers, and a 100 shot nitrous kit. This car is a daily driver and will have to pass emissions testing. I would like to go with a very lopey and powerful cam as much as I can do with the situation. Thanks for the help.

Well at least you mentioned you had to pass emissions. That helps.

Is it an M6 or an A4? If A4, do you have a stall? Do you plan to get one? Where do u want the powerband? What kind of numbers do u want?

I would suggest looking at something in the range of 224 on a 114lsa if you're an automatic, 112lsa if you're a stick. They are very proven cams, and CAN be passed through emissions.

Having to pass emissions is going to limit the amount of lope. If you didn't have to pass emissions, I would suggest the cam I just picked up, the 231/237. Lopes hard as hell(not as hard as a G5X3, but still damn hard), loves nitrous(traditional reverse split, and a nice one at that), and puts down proven numbers without real rough ramp rates to kill your drivetrain. However, since you have to pass emissions its out of the question. I doubt God himself could tune a 231/237 to pass emissions.

Do a bunch of searching. Find a post by jrp and read his cam guide. It contains a TON of great info that will help you. I'm sure more ppl will chime in on this thread as well. Good luck man.

OBDII ya, any cam not throwing up codes will pass that. but there' no way that cam would ever come close to passing a sniffer test.

What kind of emissions testing? There are different levels of that, in cali you can't do jack squat and pass legally but elsewhere (such as where i am) I fully expect to pass with a BIG cam and my current exhaust OBDII plug in would be awsome, if you have visual/sniffer you are in a bit of trouble.

That is why i love lubbock texas, they drive your car for 10 secs, make sure blinkers and lights work, pay 9 bucks, and you go on your way.

Based on the NO and CO readouts from people who passed with 224/114 that was posted originally in CA forums, you could run a 225 or 226 but still based on a 114 tuned. Yea, go any more than 224 however, and you may see reduction in low low end N/A with stock heads, right.
